Hi possummink, and everyone reading here. I have a prayer request. My sister was taken to the hospital yesterday. She works in a bank, and her right hand and face went numb. They thought she might be having a stroke. The MRI of her brain shows a subdural hematoma and bleeding in the brain.
She had a bad fall years ago and broke the femur in her right leg. They had to put in a plate and screws. While recuperating from that, she threw a blood clot into the lung.
They put her on blood thinners. Not long ago she hit her head on the kitchen cupboard, but didn't think anything of it. Apparently that caused this clot and the bleeding.
She is off the blood thinner, and they are giving her plasma IV and vitamin K to thicken the blood a bit. They tested her arms, legs and neck to see if there are any more clots, but no word about that yet.
Sometime soon they will take her into radiology and go through the groin and implant a valve that will catch any clots that might be making their way to her lung, heart or brain.
She has to be off work for 4 weeks, and then return for a scan. If the blood clot is gone or smaller so that they know the body is absorbing the blood, they will probably remove the valve and put her back on blood thinners.
She is in good spirits, being well cared for and 2 of her girls are there. Her Down's son who lives with her will be taken to see her tonight. He's okay. At work since his routine is important to him. My niece is feeding the 7 cats and 2 dogs.
Things could have been so much worse, and she is thankful for the care and the presence of the Lord. She's all the family I have left so it's hard. She lives 80 miles from me, all freeway and I don't drive them anymore. Perhaps DD#1 could take me out to see her soon, but I don't know that.
Just wanted to ask for prayer and let you all know that I think of you and care about each one.
thanks,

Oh, Snappy, I am so sorry about the health issues your sister is experiencing. Sending some healing prayers and positive thoughts her way. I'm glad she's receiving good care and hope that her body will indeed absorb that blood clot.
I hope your daughter will be able to maybe take you to see your sister this coming weekend. I would drive you myself , if I lived anywhere out there near your home. That's what friends would do and I know any of your friends here at the Q would do the same if they were able to.
I'm glad she has someone to look after her kitties and dogs, as they'll help her recuperate when she gets to come home. I hope that's soon. I also hope that one of her girls will be checking on her son to make sure he's doing ok too. Things like that give peace of mind to those who are hospitalized. A mom always worries about her children but can relax more, knowing that they are being looked after.
I hope you get to visit with your sister soon and pray that the treatments being used now will fix her up so she can go home soon. Try not to worry too much, though I know how silly that sounds. Of course you will worry, but prayer works and God hears our prayers. ![]()

Dear Silkeej and possummink, thanks to both of you who prayed for my sister and me, and for all the kind words and thoughts.
I spoke with her yesterday before they took her in to implant the valve/stent? She was in good spirits. She has 3 daughters and 2 sons. One daughter and her hubby live around the corner from her and have always helped her.
In the afternoon, they implanted that valve and all went well. She told me she could go home last night and since it's very expensive to be in the hospital, she decided to do that.
I have a picture of her going home. She looks good. She said she slept well last night. Is a little weak today. One of her other daughters who lives farther away is taking her to the phone store today. She wants a new number. Her son with Downs seems okay. He knows how to call 911 and his sister and hovers over her when she's not well. I'm sure it helped him to see her in person.
She was laughing when I spoke with her. She has 2 dogs, little guys who are SO wild and crazy fun, but I'd trip over them for sure. She's not concerned. But one of her 7 cats likes to sit in a certain spot and will not budge for anything. He's staked a claim to that spot. I told her to whack him with the cane.
You are just so sweet, possummink to be willing to drive me out to see her. I know you mean it and that matters. If it were a really bad emergency, one of my girls would take me. Sis was supposed to come here next week, but that won't happen.
She has to watch to make sure her legs don't swell, and get right in if they do.
She returns to the doc in 4 weeks for a CT scan to see how things are. If the clot is gone, or shows evidence that it is dissolving, they can remove the stent or leave it in. It's up to her. If she leaves it in for 4 years, they won't be able to take it out.
So she has to think and pray about it. If they do remove it, they will put her back on blood thinners. We all told her that if she ever hits her head again, she has to call the doctor and I think she got the message.
I'm tired, but okay otherwise and grateful that she is okay. She's 75 years old, but looks younger. And I love her.
