" New normal" might include higher prices

DH received a text this morning from his barber. It said that when the shop reopens, the price of a haircut with increase from $15 to $25.  The increase is to cover the cost of disinfectants that they have to buy to keep everyone safe.

I had never considered how many small business owners will have to raise prices.

I think it's going to be eye opening the price increases.

That's a big jump.  "Older" men don't usually have lots of hair -mostly quick cuts.  However, my opinion is.................barber is taking advantage of the situation.  Does he increase cost when a bottle of shampoo goes up a little in price?

If hubby loves his barber - pay it.   If not, shop around.

Between lost business, supply chain issues, having to open at lower capacity for social distancing, and making other changes to keep people safe, it would be a surprise if they didn't.

I am wondering how my office is going to keep people safe. My office has an "open office" floor plan where some people sit facing someone else and there are no cubicle walls between them.

Holy smokes!  How much does his disinfectant cost?  Or how much is he using?  I can not see where wiping down a chair and all the equipment would be $10 for one person.

Not only will the businesses now have more work to disinfect, they'll have fewer customers on a daily basis due to physical distancing.  More work for less profit.  And since the employees will be having to do more of the cleaning, they may demand more pay as well.

This is going to impact every aspect of our lives.

That's too much for a haircut IMO. I would look for someone else.

DH cuts his own hair using one of those flowbees. He also trims the ends of my hair.

$10 is too much of an increase. Sounds like he's trying to make up for the money he has lost while he was closed. I doubt it's costing him an extra $10 per haircut per person to cover disinfectant costs.

That's quite a jump.

A hairdresser where I get my hair done posted on fb, that when they do open, they think it will be a requirement to change out their face masks after each client. I dont' know how that could work, cause when I get my hair colored, my hairdresser works on other customers while my color is sitting.  Between the face maksks and the disinfectant, I guess I will be paying more also.

Unless I just decide to go the route of Rapunzel.

@fthunt

Dh says he'll continue to go for now, but not as frequently. He thinks a $10 increase is too much.

You're right, it's not like he's Samson with long flowing locks.
