My mom did not want a funeral. Her wish was to be cremated. She was cremated directly from the hospital when she died. When I picked up her ashes at the funeral parlor, I brought her home. We had family and friends stop by our house on the next Saturday afternoon to pay their respects if they wanted to. Sort of like an open house. It worked out very well.
