My brother and SIL will be celebrating 50 years of maaiage in June. His daughter are throwing them a party. Any ideas on what to get them? I am a blank on ideas..

When we had our 50th most people gave us gift cards, which we enjoyed for many months afterwards for dinners, things we needed, etc. These were very much appreciated.
We did not get any bowls, dishes, etc that said 50th anniversary on them and for that we were most appreciative. There is really nothing you need for the home at this stage of life.

Gave our parents a 50th sit down dinner at their favorite restaurant and invited all their family and friends. Honestly don't remember what they received as gifts...may have been cash with which they took a cruise.
For their 60th, they renewed their vows and we treated them to a brunch with close family ( mom was in the early stages of Alzheimer's ). No gifts.
As someone facing the 50th next year, I know I don't want or need any items with "50" on them....they get stored in closets ( have emptied out several houses now and donated more 25th and 50th items ).
Ask the daughters what they think their parents might enjoy.

See if there is a larger ticket item they want and have everyone chip in for it. Perhaps something they would have to buy themselves like a new TV. LM

GIFT CARDS ONLY! I don't know anyone this age who wouldn't shed tears at getting more "stuff."

How about a gift card for a nearby inn or resort to be used for a weekend get away. Perhaps go in with others on it, but believe me it will be appreciated. Our kids have done this for us for Christmas and we did it for a close friends birthday.

Totally agree! We celebrated our 50th 2 years ago and gift cards were the "gift of choice"! We didn't want any gifts but some people feel they wanr to give you something, anyway. With Master card or Visa, you can use them for anything anywhere.

....nothing says "I don't care enough about you to put some thought and care into a gift" like gift card...lol

I also don't like gift cards. Seems very impersonal and "easy way out" to me. But that's just a personal preference.
i do like the idea of a weekend stay at a nearby resort. Also, maybe their daughter has some suggestions??
We had a big bash for my parents' 50th but had a no gift policy per their wishes.
