Re: Written scripts those days are gone

I too miss the days when I got up early, dressed,  I climbed into my 20+ foot long 8000 pound Pontiac boulevard barge that got 7 mpg, and drove to the pharmacy with my little slip of paper in my hand, drove around the block ten times to find a space big enough for my barge, paid the meter, went in, waited in line, handed over the prescirption and waited for the clerk and the pharmacist to give it a glance, be told it'd be "twenty minutes".....so I made some overpriced purchases of stuff I didn't need....

Then, I'd go to all the other stand-alone "Mom and Pop*" stores and repeat the parking game, and the meter game...to the butcher and repeat the parking game, the grocery store for ONLY groceries ... they have a parking lot so no problem there...to the bank and repeat the parking game....wait on line til my turn, so I can transfer funds from savings to checking from my little paper "passbook" clutched in my hand, or maybe even cash my paycheck for that week!!!

Or deposit my paper Social Security check...fresh from the mailbox at the curb!!!

Sometimes...on to  the post office to buy stamps to mail all my bills out...and back to  the bank ro reorder checks....

...and then..... after spending a whole day moving the gas hog around and making 12 stops, the gas station!!!!

Because the barge is on "E" and I can't find my gloves so my hands will reek....( but they sure don't make cars like they used to in 1970 thank goodness...lets go backwards!!!....)

Nope.

No going back for me.

I can do almost ALL that stuff from my computer in my jammies ( or the doctor can from his computer in his offices).

Except for getting gas. But at least I don't have to go once a week any longer for that either since modern cars get 30+ MPG...and they'r a WHOLE lot easier to park cause they' re no longer the size ( and weight) of small tug-boats!!!

I was in the dentist's the other day ...they took Xrays that I could see seconds after they were taken. Amazing.

And when I had my hip replaced last year? The Xrays are available to the MD before I even get to his office in the hospital from the X ray department. Amazing!!!

I don't EVER want to go backwards.

O yeah. Mom and Pop? They're relaxing at home, on thier third cup of coffee, checking thier investment account balances on thier I-phones, or on a cruise somewhere. ....they don't want ot waste all day driving around either to do what they can now do from thier easy chair....

Even THEY don't want to go back!!!!

@CelticCrafter I believe you can ask either at the docs or at the pharmacy.

Not sure about the cost, but I think the pharmacy would tell you and you could refuse.

Also at our pharmacies there is a window for consultation.

Re: Written scripts those days are gone

@DrakesMomma

I do too.....!!!

The pride of the Big Three ( GM, Ford and Chrysler)..... aircraft inspired slab sided beauties with acres of flat sheet metal pressed into unimaginative shapes.....the front bench seats like plush living room sofas where the passenger was in a different zip code....the doors that were a foot thick and closed with a satisfying "thunk"...

The chrome....ahhhhh....the chrome...the giant front and rear bumpers...  each stamped in interesting bizarre shapes, with bumper guards and those little slots for the jack you'd never use.... each bumper weighing more than today's compact cars....

The spacious trunk.

The engine compartment shielding that 454 Cubic inch dual carburated eight cylinder gasoline sucking motor....that IF you were lucky would get you ( and the 7000 pound chassis)  to 50K miles before the whole mess travelled to the junk yard..

And the tires!!! Steel belted, 18" wide, mounted on plain steel wheels covered with gaudy chromed hub caps that sometime whirled away down the highway ahead of you if they came loose while under way!!!!

That funny spring hanging off the fender that disapated static on the curb....

The dashboard appointments....a working knob on the left side was duplicated by a dummy knob on the right to keep everthing symetric...the opera lights...the landau half-roof..the giant steering wheel and foot activated high beam button....all the glitz and glamour deocorations intended to keep people buying when they couldn't afford to fil the tank a quarter of the way and the tiny imports were on the way to doom them...

Yep. I loved em too.

I LOVE to watch movies from the early 70's just to see the cars in the background...and think back longingly to when we had one....(My dad got a Company car every two years til he was fired for drinking too much.....a 68 Plymouth Fury, a 70 Impala, a 72 some kind of Ford monster sedan.....)

I was there....and sometimes. late at night... when I'm about to fall asleep and my past floods back in random bits....I fondly remember......

@Group 5 minus 1  I was just at the doctor for a thyroid blood panel draw last week.    As I left I was HANDED a prescription for my thyroid refill.   I do live in Mississippi though, enough said.

@Boomernichols I'm curious. Was the script written or typed?

@Mom2Dogs wrote:

I used to insist on a written script because I shopped around for the best price...the doctors office will do it if you insist...at least that is my experiene.

I guess it depends on the office policy.

I never really thought about getting a written script until and young man politely asked for one. He was told no!

He explained that he did not have a regular pharmacy and was still told no.

Re: Written scripts those days are gone

Written scripts went extinct about 20 or 25 years ago.   I don't even remember when I last had one.   All scripts are done electronically now.   I use CVS and I love that I have access to my records and I can do everything on my phone.  And get my scripts delivered to me.
