Re: Would you take this back ?

JMO...fruits I never buy as they age quickly when they are sliced or cubed..you really don't know when it was actually sliced....I have had great success with the mini baby seedless watermelons ....delish and just enough...I've made smoothies, salads, etc......I just take any spoiled back if any...... and they have a collection in back where the store gets credit.....btw I worked years ago at a fruit and veg market that also sold outstanding butchered meat hth Smiley Happy

Just wondering what you would do

Everyone,have a great work week

That's the chance we all take when buying produce. If I were you, I'd call the store to find out options. They might refund it or exchange it.

I worked in customer service at a major grocery store after retiring. Only 1 thing was more gross than people returning produce, which was usually half eaten, very old, returned in a leaky bag, dirty, etc.

Your best bet is to find a legitimate farmer who has a stand set up in your city. Their fruit and vegetables are better than any store.

A friend and I found a farm about 40 minutes away where we can pick our own produce from their smaller fields or buy from their stand right there on the farm. I've never had anything bad from them.

I haven't read every post, so I'm answering to just you.

First, do you have a rewards or membership program there that you've signed up for?  If so, this watermelon is in your purchase history, and their CS can verify you bought that item.

If so, call the CS for the company, tell them what happened and ask for a credit for the full amount.  You don't even have to leave your home to fix this and get your refund.

Secondly, whenever I am buying a melon or other fruit whose maturity can be a little difficult to determine (pineapples, etc) I always go to the senior produce person on duty and ask THEM to pick me out the best ______  (whatever).   Who knows the produce better than the people who handle it every single day?

I always go home with perfect fruit.

$6 is 6 bucks. If the fruit was spoiled and not fresh , then of course take it back! Get another watermelon.

I disagree and would take it back. If not it's like throwing six dollar bills into the trash. I shop at 2 major supermarket chains both of which take food and other items purchase there back, no questions asked, with your receipt. Even if you just didn't like it -- there doesn't have to be something wrong with it.

yes, 6 dollars matters to me

i have had a few issues with items from my walmart deliveries.

i call the customer service and they refund instantly.

this is why i feel confident in ordering fresh fruit and veggies to be delivered,  since i am not the one picking and inspecting at the store.

You can process a refund online too.  But WalMart will monitor you and cut you off if you have too many returns.

In years past, I would forget about it and move on. Today, not so much. $6 is a big deal to me now that I'm retired and on a fixed income. I would call the store to see what their rules are.

I would return it. 6 bucks is 6 bucks. Also I think the store would want to know that this was put out for sale, but not acceptable.

eating watermelon right now. this one  is pretty blah and fibrous but it actually crisped up being in a cold fridge. i crank up temp a skotsh  in the hot weather. this watermelon was a bit mushy when i split it. but cut into good sized wedges and being in the fridge helped.

the little white seeds though..yecch

i have returned cherries that when i bit into one were like pebbles and woody mealy peaches.

now peaches forget it . gave up. they are all that chromey looking green right by the stem which means they were picked too soon.

but yeah go ahead and return it...

@foxywoods

I don't eat melons (childhood thing) and never like watermelons because they are so mushy around the seeds.  Yuck!

A few weeks ago my neighbor gave me a nice hunk of a SEEDLESS YELLOW WATERMELON and it was fabulous.

Really, really good.
