Do you purchase Insurance Issued by Rental Car Companies?
I called my insurance agent and she said I would be covered by my own insurance, but if I had an accident, it would follow me, causing my premium to go up.
I've already had ONE accident this year ...- the first one in my life.
Backed into a pole ... no one was around. SMH ... ![]()

I do not buy the insurance from the car rental company. My own car insurance covers me, but my agent recommended added a short term "loss of use" coverage to take care of the car rental company being without the vehicle if I was in an accident.

Whenever I rent a vehicle I always purchase the insurance from the car rental, two times I've been lucky I did. There's no hassle when you have an incident. I know my insurance will "supposedly" cover any incident, but, it's always a hassle.
One incident happened in the states and the second in France, both times I wasn't at fault and both times it was discovered at the airports when returning the rentals. After photos and notes were taken, I was on my way with no additional costs, etc.'
I consider it well worth the extra expense and budget accordingly.

I think "loss of use" only covers you when you're renting a car because you had an accident.
I'm not renting a car because I had an accident. I'm renting a car because it's gonna take 3 weeks to get my car fixed. ![]()

No, I do not take the additional rental insurance.
My regular car insurance covers that.

I always get insurance from the car rental company. Much more economical than having my own insurance rates go up.

My Credit Card company provides insurance for rental cars if the rental is charged to their card.
There are perks that come with a CC that most people never use because they don't read the materials.

Would you be renting a car if you didn't have an accident ? It doesn't make sense otherwise.

Your driving record follows you no matter what you're driving or who is insuring it.
So, no matter if you're driving your own vehicle, a rental vehicle or a friend's or family member's vehicle, if you have a reported accident/incident/violation, your insurance company will find out.
They pull MVR reports on all drivers regularly. If something is *chargeable*, most likely your premium will increase at the next renewal.
So getting the insurance through the rental car company doesn't absolve you from an increase on your personal auto policy, if something happens.
I never get the rental company's insurance.
