When neighbors gave a helping hand to those that need it???? I was out shoveling the driveway (or trying) three times today. Guy across the street was snow blowing his driveway, guy next door same thing. I can remember when people would offer their help to those older people struggling. My father would have told my brother to go do it for a neighbor. No more. It's everyone for themselves.

You should move next to us then. My husband shoveled our driveway and two of our neighbors.

I'm sorry that happened. I hope it is simply thoughtlessness rather than calousness. It is upsetting and I also wonder what has happened to kindness.
Several years ago I had brain surgery and couldn't (still can't) do any heavy lifting. Hub was driving at the time and away for weeks. None of my neighbors ever offered to snow blow me out either. I ended up hiring someone to plow my driveway as I had to get to work and if I had waited to flag someone down or appeal for help, I would never have gotten to work an hour and a half away.
It's disconcerting and non-action of neighbors contribute to feelings of isolation with everything going on. We are a community of people and should look out for and take care of each other.

I can't believe they didn't to help you. I know my husband or son would have. So sad 😞

GenXmuse, how kind you and your husband are. How fortunate your neighbors are to have you.

@rms1954 Wow...I'm so sorry and surprised they didn't help you! Truly is surprising to me.
It's not true though that it no longer happens. My bf always automatically does his car and walkway and then immediately does everyone else's he can help, such as the elderly in his complex and another handicapped lady.
I also always have brushed off neighbor's cars, some elderly and handicapped ones, or just as many cars as I could, as I was already out there doing mine, might as well give them a leg up.
I'm not saying that to puff myself up, but to give you some faith in humanity...that kind of good semaritan does still exist. I saw it a lot when I took care of my elderly mom too...who had trouble getting around. People always ran over to help us when they saw her struggling. I see plenty of things that make me sad about the lack of humanity these days, but in those instances with mom I used to focus on the fact that there are those good people, and real compassion still out there.
I hope you have a better experience and some better neighbors at some point who will help next time!

Aww, thanks, yours too!

I know what you mean. No one offers to help. No kids come by to shovel either. I'd be glad to pay. I shovel snow. Even the sidewalk for a young guy next door, (that does nothing) because the kids walk to the school bus.
DH still wants to go out & help with stalled cars, car batteries, stopped sewers etc I have to tell him no because he's got arthritis in his hip. He can barely walk lately, he's fallen down in the house a few times in the last two days.

It's a shame to say but I think many people are oblivious to the world around them. We would have been happy to help you.

Another wonderful response reminding us that kindness is alive and well! Bless you.
