 You were cautious OP and that is good.  I probably wouldn't have given him anything, and said to give me your address, I'll call the cops, you go wait in the street in front.  Then again - in that very stressful moment, who knows.

ALL women need to read (or re-read) The Gift of Fear by Gavin De Becker.  PLEASE read it if you have not.

OP: Even if he saw you through the window, you could have just called 911.

Glad it turned out well and glad to know you won't do this next time. Interesting that the police found nothing.

I'm still suspicious of this guy and his story. BE CAREFUL! And let your neighbors know, if you haven't already.

@Zhillswrote:

I think that when you told him he couldn't come in and he understood but asked for your help he was trusting you also.

I think you did the right thing.  You lived through it!  That proves it!

********** I totally disagree. I'm sort of speechless on this one.

@sidsmom I realllllllly should have mentioned - if anyone belongs to Amazon Kindle Unlimited, this book is one of the free e-books you can rent.  You can rent 10 at a time.

Would love to hear what you think of the book!

I agree about The Gift of Fear. I've read it 3-4 times and passed it on to a girlfriend who did stupid, dangerous stuff. She read it and paid attention.

You did the right thing, I would never let a man or a woman into my house if I didn't know them. One time a woman knocked on my front door and said she had a toddler in her truck that she found walking down the road in his barefeet. I looked out the window and indeed there was a a very young boy shirtless standing up in the front seat of her truck. I told her I could call the local police and they could come and check it out or she could take the child to the police station. She abruptly left.

Wow! I am just blown away by all the stories people tell when they knock on your door! I probably would have gotten suckered in on some of them.

I am so grateful to the people on this Forum for keeping us aware of the scams, phishing, etc that goes around. I wish people would work as hard at a job as they do at cheating their fellow humans!

This Forum made me aware of the 'can you hear me' phone call scam. Sure enough, I eventually got one of those when I was expecting a service call, and I knew to just hang up. Thanks to all!
