Re: What is going on with over 55 communities

Every MHP is  different...not a blanket, cross the board, deal.

A rent may be $600 a month in one and $1000 in another!

What does that include?  At one park locally it even includes your cable TV!

I have to say, I don't live in a mobile home, or an over 55 development....but I have learned so much from  these posts.!!!   Wow, people really need to read, research and not enter anything on an impulse or whim...that's for sure.  Here in California there are special rules governing these developments and HOA...but I am clueless. I would think one of the first places I might go is your local or state dept, governing these developments. And go from there.  I read every post!   Thanks, informative.

Yes, have been seeing this type of thing a few times on our local news in Maine.  Out of state companies buying up mobile home parks and jacking up the land rents to make it unaffordable for the older set.  There is no law preventing it so far.  Local/state  government is looking into the situation to see if they can help out.

YIKES!  Just last night, my husband said we should sell and move into a community where all the maintenance is done for you.  I don't think he was serious but I didn't like him even saying it.  I'm not crazy about my location but I could never leave my home and certainly don't want to start over.  Poor mom never accepted it.

A home or condo would be a different matter, @monicakm.

This thread seems to be about manufactured homes in parks.

True, but it's a problem for other over 55 communities also.  Even if you own the land or the condo, the maintenance fees can rise significantly - especially if the management company changes.
