What do you do if you still work?

I so miss teaching!

What do if you still work and when do you plan to retire?

What did you teach?  If you taught elementary kids and miss it, have you thought about getting a part-time job was a teacher's aide?

You sound like my youngest sister-in-law.  She is an online teacher now and loves it even more than classroom teaching if that is possible.

She lives and breathes this stuff!   You certainly should be able to find something to give you the teaching fix you need.

Re: What do you do if you still work?

If you are still interested in something related to teaching but don't want to tie yourself down with a part time job, there are volunteer groups in many communities that teach adults to read or volunteer programs that mentor & tutor children.   Depending on your education level, see if you can get an adjunct job at a local university.  My ex did that, teaching only one class per semester, and he loved it.

If you'd rather do something else, every community usually has dozens of volunteer opportunites of all types.  I've personally done things like cataloging old county records for an archive to washing baby and child's clothes and toys that were donated to a charity group and sorting them into special gift boxes for needy folks.

I don't plan to retire before 70 or so. After 70, I will still work part-time.

Retired two years ago after 35 years as a legal secretary.  Just starting back to work part-time - need some human contact.

Funny you should ask that question. I am a nurse and in 5 more working days (I work Mon-Friday)  I will retire. April 8th to be exact. I am so excited but on the other hand I am wondering what I will do to pass the time.  I will be babysitting my 6 mo old grandson for a few hrs a day and  plan to start a exercise routine to keep in shape. I need to get out and socialize more, my job is work from home so I don't go out with friends. Usually when my workday ends at  5, I'm done and just want to relax. .

@nomless****Some of us are geared to and really connect to dealing with HS students and all their problems.  Some of us love to nurture the young and enjoy teaching at those levels which are so very important and the foundation we depended on.

Because I was so advanced and had a double major, I'm a HS person and developed many life long friendships.  I've been in quite a few weddings, taught parents and their children.

The school had two or three of my classes "make" that they couldn't put in my class load every semester.

We all shine in our unique ways.

Re: What do you do if you still work?

Another retired teacher, here. I really miss seeing the students and the social contact. I find retirement to be very dull. I do have some things I do and enjoy, but need more consistency.

OP, have you thought about substitute teaching? I have done that and really like it. It is something I can do on my terms. I can pick and choose where I will go and when.  I have been a snowbird for almost 4 months and that was no problem. I am getting a new knee in May, so I am sure I am done for this year.  Good luck with whatever you choose.

I am a Speech Pathologist in the schools and will retire after one more year. I am a little scared to be honest, but I have a year to plan and come up with some ideas. I will miss the social part of working, but not the paperwork. I do have a husband and one daughter and grandson in town, so I won't be alone.
