My poor DH.  Start of NFL regular season and electric went out.  Can't watch Steelers game.  He linked up his PC to our cell phone data plan.  However there is no way to watch the game live thru Xfinity on line.   Oh well, he'll do good old fashioned radio.  He doesn't do bars.  Hopefully the power will be back on by half time.

Re: What a Bummer..Power Outage

Never fails, does it?

Wish you guys were here, as my mom has the game on and you'd be welcome. Big Steeler's fan, and she never misses a game!

Re: What a Bummer..Power Outage

My brother is a huge Steeler's fan. I'm sure he's watching the game up in OH.

@Allegheny, could your husband maybe catch it later OnDemand?

My hubby is a NYY baseball fan, but often the games are blacked out and he has to resort to the radio, too. Buy premium sports packages (DirecTV) and they black out the games... I don’t get it.

We had so many power outages here that we bought a Generac whole house generator. Best investment we ever made!

Hope your electricity is soon restored.

@Allegheny, bummer!  DH is watching football upstairs and I am in the den watching horse jumping.  I think I will come back in my next life as an accomplished equestrian,

Hope your power gets restored before too much of the game is gone!  LM

Re: What a Bummer..Power Outage

@Lilysmom  Nice to hear from you.  Thank you for your good thoughts. Electric was only off for about 6 hours. Unfortunately there was only three minutes remaining in the 4th quarter.  But the game did go into overtime.  It was starting to get a little chilly in the house.  Our temps went from the sunny 90s Wednesday to rainy mid 50s yesterday and today.

My thoughts were with the linemen who had to go out in this lousy weather, thru the woods and replace a split pole then miss the game to boot.

Good thing was, it started a discussion with DH about installing a natural gas generator.

@WaJa61  This power outage had a bright moment.  It brought on discussion between DH & I  about getting a whole house generator.

My husband was watching that game last night, we don't have to worry about power outages; we have a whole house generator

Awwwwww that's bad. About the game.

My husband and I were talking 2 days ago about next spring, maybe getting a large outdoor generator.  We have one a few years old now, but he's getting too unphysically fit to go through snow, lug that thing to where it needs to be and hook it up.  I know it's a big investment, but, if we did that we wouldn't have to worry about losing power and we do lose power here from time to time.  We have maybe 20 years we could go on, and that investment over 20 years, for older people, is sort of a good feeling.  I think an investment in us for safety, may be a good idea.  (It all started when I saw one of their commercials.)  @Allegheny

Re: What a Bummer..Power Outage

Oh no, can't watch the Steelers!!!!!  Many of our family/friends were at the game in the cold and rain.  Living in FL and not having pay tv, my husband rarely gets to watch a game in real time.  He subscribes to an NFL program that allows him to watch the game on his computer after it is over.  Everyone knows not to give any hint of how it went, scores, etc before he gets to watch it.  Good news for him is they are playing in Tampa this month and he gets to attend.

@qualitygal

Installing a whole house natural gas generator has been on our minds for many years on and off.  One year a big summer storm hit our area and our electric was out for four days.  We missed a day of work and finally had to rent a motel room.  We have a well and if you don't have electric to operate the pump you can't shower or flush the commodes.  Back then we just couldn't afford the expenditure and didn't want to mess with a gasoline powered model.

We also hope to spend many more years in our home if our health permits.  So we are looking at the generator as an investment and improvement.
