Just say, "I know, but I'm worth it."  DH got Invisalign braces about a year ago because his teeth had really spread out to the point that it was affecting his speech. I think they cost about $6,000. Of course, they weren't covered by our insurance, but he's done really well with them and he feels much better about himself. Luckily, we could afford it.

AND everyone who commented....THANKYOU! So many wonderful suggestions and things to think about.  You guys are the best!

i am going to really think it over some more. Look into more options perhaps.... When I decide what I am going to do, I will let you know.  There is no rush.  I am not one to rush into this kind of thing.

Again,  ThankYou ❤️🙂

I am really, really into nice teeth.  I still have all of mine in great shape and would spend whatever I had to to keep them white, straight and nice looking.

A bad smile and bad teeth can age you and it can lead to medical problems.

If I needed veneers or whatever, I would just get them.  I don't need my DH to be on board.  He knows how I feel.  I would beg, borrow or steal to get the money if I didn't have it...it's that important to me.

About 10 years ago, he had veneers placed on all of his front teeth..top and bottom at my urging.  He looks so much better and feels so much better about himself too.  The by product is that most people think he is 10 years younger than he is.

His "old" teeth aged him.

It is a lot of money, and seems a tad bit high for just the front teeth. I know that a brand name crown Captek which has gold inside is $1000 so Im not sure about the veneers been that high. But if it doesnt hurt you financially then you can consider it. Have you heard of care credit. Its a payment plan option. Sometimes they have an offer that if you pay within 12-18 months its interest free that way you dont feel like its all upfront.

Also besides veneers consider other options like crowns that insurance can cover. If you have cracks in your teeth then insurance should cover that because then its not cosmetic, it could be considered compromised tooth structure prone to decay and cracking. Veneers are considered cosmetic and thats why insurance wont cover them.  Find a way to have insurance cover some and you pay some out of pocket. Talk to your dentist and you can also get another opinion from a different doc too.

@SeaMaiden Under the circumstances you describe, I wouldn't hesitate a minute and gladly and gratefully get the procedure done.

As someone who spent a lot more than $10K to completely remake and replace my worn-out teeth (periodontal disease for years) 6 years ago, and having worked my entire life while living frugally so had the $$$, it was the best investment in my overall well being I ever made (on par with the eye implants that I got at the same time granting me perfect vision without glasses.

To me (and my financial situation ) that's what the money was for!!

So here is the situation. Married 40 years.

I want to get my front teeth done with veneers.  Cost is about $10,000. My teeth look old...yellow, have cracks down my two front teeth....I do not want to smile because of it.  I am self conscious....

When I bring  the idea up with. DH, he says...."that's a lot of money".

Of course it is a lot of money. I want to do it for myself.  I am 64. Still want to feel good about myself.

We have the money.

What do I  say to  him to be on board with this idea?

I know I can just do it....

but, I want HIM  to say " Do It! If it makes you feel better, Do it!"

I also had a similar situation years back....my husband also was not keen on the idea for me spending the money even though we could have afforded it at the time...and i didn't............to this day i regret not just going  ahead with the procedure.......it never affected his life....but it has affected mine over the years....GO FOR IT!!

I have 4 veneers and so happy go pay the money get it done right with a dentist. My enamel wore away & just had to do it. I will say I am protective which means don't eat corn on the cob or bite into a carmel candy. About 11yrs later had to redo them no problem because most of it just needed to be replaced not as expensive as the 1st time. Don't go for real white looks fake, they will match up the color with the rest of the teeth which is more natural. Money well spent because makes me happy and more confident when I laugh. Go for it don't listen to DH. Funny my DH never said a word. I was upset too with the price but he knew I needed it done. You deserve it.

I do have dental ins. but they consider this cosmetic which they don't pay. Just do it. As we get older we need more dental care rather do that than dentures. I am allowed twice a year cleaning with ins, but go 3 times a year (out of my pocket for that cleaning) makes me feel good just to have a nice mouth.
