Normally, a RN makes a visit to assess the patient before PT can come in.  So hopefully, there will be an updated physical exam for @ECBG .  Then PT usually starts their visits if the person is home bound or sets up coming in for outpatient therapy.  Any way, I think it's good that something is being done to help.  Best wishes to get better!  That 's the important thing.

@Jk9  I believe she already had an outpatient PT appointment and at that appointment home PT was recommended.  Based on on the threads I have read about her health issues, I think she thinks that the weight loss, swelling and breathing issues are all due to the fact that she is inactive and she thinks that if PT can get her walking she will be fine.

@ninjawife @Jk9   After all her posts I'm so confused about how this began, issues now and what she's actually doing to get medical help. It sounds like more than just a physical therapist is needed. Has she been to a doc? What happened to care facility and/or home care person she mentioned? I've "known" @ECBG for many years here. This all does not sound coherent IMO.

@Shanus  ECBG fell down some stairs a few months ago and has not been able to walk very well since.  In that time maybe due to the fall she developed a blot clot in her leg.  I haven't been able to figure out how that is being treated or if it has resolved which you would think would be an issue that needs medical attention.  Since attending outpatient PT for one visit last week I believe she has been waiting for home PT.  Since that time her ankle starting swelling and I think she got the idea that she could just check herself into a rehab rather than waiting for home PT.  Of course that is not how rehab works which she found out so she is just waiting for home PT to be scheduled.  She also mentioned last week that she is on a "breathing machine".

You are definitely right in thinking that she probably needs more than PT but I think she is stuck on thinking if she is able to walk again all her problems will resolve.

@Shanus : I totally agree. I had initially suggested a stand up walker and she said not needed , but had asked me how I got to the bathroom? She stated that she was holding on to the walls and furniture to move around.Then  more post started to list more scary issues. She ask for help and suggestions  but waiting for home physical therapy. If what she is posting is true then more intervention and help is needed. I am very concerned about her physical and mental help. Praying that on Monday the home PT will insist that 911 will be called for ambulance. Just my opinion from trying to read all of her very confusing post.

@Shanus

Thank you my friend.  You and 3/4 of the board  missed several  posts so here goes.

The rehab facility apparently only takes accident victoms or car, or if you are profoundly hurt but need longer care than the hospital.

Home physical therapists which will be called Monday are my best option.

@ECBG   All rehab centers only take accident and surgical patients for inpatient care. Sometime people who need extensive wound care from illness such as diabetes go there too.   You have to need more medical care than just PT to go there.

 In addition to doing PT, they do things like wound care, IV's and other medical necessary procedures that are not only custodial care.

No insurance is going to pay for you to stay overnight when you do not need overnight care.  And, as I  mentioned before, you have to be an inpatient in the hospital for three whole days before going into a rehab facility.

You can get PT in your home with your home health care benefits.  This has to be requested by a health care professional.  You can't just call up, make an appointment and ask them to come.

It must be ordered and prescribed by your doctor.

They will send out a nurse who will set up a treatment plan and send out physical therapists to you on a schedule.  You can't just call tomorrow and they will come out.

I didn't miss what you say 3/4 of the board did.  You keep posting the same thing over and over again, but this is not how things work.  Without a three day inpatient admission, you are not eligible for an inpatient rehab center.

It has nothing to do with accidents, or car accidents or those profoundly hurt.  It has to do with medical necessity and yes, it's a step down from inpatient hospital care.  You have to have had the impatient medical care first.

I hope you get the care you need and that your doctor is involved.  You cannot make a request for physical therapy at an outpatient center or in your home without a referral.  I hope you have one.

@ECBG

I sincerely wish you the very best outcome with your health issues, but also hope you will consider stepping away from your current threads.  Until your health situation improves, and you can update with positive reports, you will be in our thoughts and prayers.
