When we have to call out for work, we are required to send an email.  I don't expect a response. Sometimes, I get one, other times not.

It doesn't bother me at all. Not everything needs a response.

I always try to respond right away.  Not sure why but I do.  Probably because I have a habit of forgetting my phone at home lol. So when I do have it I respon.  I am not attached to it because I grew up with no cell phones lol. Lots of pay phones:-)

My friends text a lot, we have a group text...I chime in on occasion.  I'd rather chat on the phone.

Yesterday at a restaurant the waitress wanted me to use my cell phone to scan the QR Code to get the menu.  I declined, I cannot understand what is so difficult about bringing a menu to the table.

I have unlimited texting on my phone but not unlimited data...no way am I using data to look at a menu.

I haven't eaten out in a few years now, but my wife does, and quite often. Many, maybe even most restaurants, even the ice rink, have WiFi. If so, no data is used.

As I said about my eating out. If I did and they wouldn't hand me a menu to read? Bye, bye, there are tons of other eateries that do not require technology for me to decide what I am going to have to eat.

A other good reason to add to why I won't eat out. Not everyone has a cell phone, and not all that do, know how to use all their features.

Good for you,

I know exactly what you are referring to about scanning for menus.  It's about not having to prepare and throw away paper menus or sterilize reuseable menus.

Some restaurants are still using salt and pepper packets.

Many restaurants went to QR codes as a means of reducing the transmission of germs. Unless the menu is printed on a paper placemat it seems a clever option to avoiding contamination. Often there are printed menus available upon request. Or check out the menu before leaving home.

I love the ease of texting and consider my phone part of my life.  I've been able to keep in touch with dear friends I grew up with when we moved across the country 11 years ago.  I will usually respond to texts with a thumbs up gif if I'm unable to answer directly at the time.  But I believe in saying Thanks if that's all I'm able to do.  We all understand that texting is not like writing a thank you note, it's an expression of quick thoughts and answers.  But I believe that no one should be rude and it would not have been much of an effort to write Thanks or send a smiley gif as acknowledgment of your text.

I would not have taken the day off without confirmation from a supervisor that he/she actually received the text.

Professionally he should have responded, if only to assure the employee that what she did was acceptable.

It sounds as though she announced her plans without first consulting that her plans were ok.

I don't know about anyone else but if this boss only replies to "favorites" ( and how does she know this??) I would have been extra careful to make sure all was good to go.
