@Luvsmyfam wrote:it was a big Def concerning my job.i was letting the boss know I would be taking off today, but had it covered and would be back to work tues.he is notorious for only texting back his favorites.i try not to be so sensitive, but most of the time,it doesn't work.thank you for your reply mindyd
Since it was job related and time sensitive, I think the person should have acknowledged receipt of your text.
Perhaps you could leave a voice mail message to reconfirm your text since I think the fact that you weren't coming into work is very important.

Texting is nothing more than another form of communication. Over the weekend my GS participated in an activity I was unable to attend. SIL videoed it and texted me the video and I got to see it within seconds. GD went shopping last month and wanted my opinion on an outfit. Texted a picture and got instant feedback. We also do Facetime and shop together, It's not always convenient to call so a quick text is more convenient for both parties. The text itself determines whether an immediate response is needed.

I don't text, and not because I am electronically challenged, but by choice.
I have no idea what are considered "texting" courtesy, or rules(?). To me it is similar to a regular USPS letter decades ago, or an answering service of yesteryear and today.
How or if one replies, depends on what was said or typed in "said message". If a question is asked, or a "please reply" is part of it? I would expect, at the least, recognition of receiving it. However if I get no reply, rude is not the word(s) I use.
Judging from what I read about "texting", seems like each party expects an immediate response. Like many of these same "texters", everything in their lives should be "right now", no processing time, but immediately.
I have never lived my life that way, and being one that loves some of the new technological advances? Cell phones, other than used for their original intent, or other types of advanced technology, used for added features? I can and will continue to live just fine without them.
I won't even get into those injured, even killed, because they are so important that they need all things done "yesterday"!

For a text like yours I always responded to my employees a simple "thanks for letting me know." Common courtesy isn't so common any more.

It wasn't meant to hurt your feelings, it is to answer your question. Your text messages may not have been clear and that is why you haven't received a reply.
If you're sending business texts maybe have your boss or co-worker show you how to use the keyboard? It's not really a gadget, it's the same format as typewriters in terms of layout. There are some bells and whistles, but have a co-worker or friend show you how to use the key to capitalize and space key so sentences can be separated.

I agree with you totally. Sometimes it's just a question, they can't see if you have your phone with you.
What I think is rude, is to be in the middle of several answers back and forth, suddenly they're gone!
To me it's like hanging up a phone in the middle of a conversation.
Are we thinking the same?

@rockygems123, I think that her reponse about the gadgets here is regarding this message board. But either way, I agree that a little bit of time taken to learn the ropes would be beneficial.

I will not be tied to any device and will get back to someone at my convenience. Given that this was a work issue, you gave your boss all the information they needed. If I had done the same without a response, I would have sent an email and left a voice message and let it go. You did what you could, now let it go. I've found that creating drama for myself hurts no one but me.

My friends text a lot, we have a group text...I chime in on occasion. I'd rather chat on the phone.
Yesterday at a restaurant the waitress wanted me to use my cell phone to scan the QR Code to get the menu. I declined, I cannot understand what is so difficult about bringing a menu to the table.
I have unlimited texting on my phone but not unlimited data...no way am I using data to look at a menu.
