I suppose if we were all more independent and did our own hair, cooked our own meals, shopped for our own needs and skipped all the deliveries, we wouldn't be tipping all over the place.

Mostly, that's what I do. Cat Very Happy

What bothers me when I pay by credit card is the "suggested tip" giving you the amount. It never starts at 10 or 15%, usually 22%. I think that's very manipulative!!!

@Steffdoggy10

In addition to the suggestions, many places include tax in their calculations.  That's just dishonest.

@granddi

Is the tip for picking out the cookie and sliding in a bag?

The pizza shop I frequent has a suggested tip - I go and pick up so that I can avoid delivery fee.  Who is getting the tip - everyone in shop?  I dont contribute.  DS used to work in pizza restaurant.  There was a tip jar.  Guess who got the tips?  Not the employees.

As for different charities asked to contribute to, I have read many funds never get to intended recipients.

@Marp   Who knows if they are getting or not getting a living wage....tipping is out of hand.

It never dawned on me to tip the woman that grooms our dog.  We go faithfully roughly every 6 weeks - pay what she charges and do not tip.  A friend told me she tips the woman the grooms her dogs.  I am not starting that.

No one in service work or in retail stores gets a living wage. This has been well known and publicized for years.The same is true for big corporations. I know from experience as a ranking officer at a huge corporation.

Low pay and minimum wage are the problems. Tipping is not the the problem except for those who are too cheap to recognize what others go through.

p.s. I always tip the person who grooms my dog. She gets a lousy wage but it so very good to my dog.

I've heard that tips given thru the register are not always given to the employees.
