Re: The Question: Where Did You Get That?

[ Edited ]

They ask I tell them.

They compliment and don't ask...lol...if it was a good find...sometimes I tell them anyway.

I honestly have never thought twice about it. I like sharing. I ask others too and they share. Wow...never in my life have I felt it was rude?! Hope no one I asked did; it never felt that way. I don't ask often...I have to really want to find something and, if so, might say, can I ask where you got that, I've been looking for something like that. Women I've chatted with, friends or strangers...we all seem to love sharing this stuff. That's been my experience with it.

But @BunSnoop truly, that's just me...no shade...to each our own on this.

ps. I've never asked or had asked to me, "how much did you pay for that."

I worked in a professional capacity and dressed to the "nines" each day because I had to appear in public.  I bought 90% of my clothes at my favorite consignment shop near where I live.

High end brands that I never could buy at retail.

When I got compliments I just said the truth.  I think that consignment shop enjoyed the business they got from my referrals.

I compliment others but never ask where they purchased the item.  Just seems odd to me.

Re: The Question: Where Did You Get That?

I'll always tell someone where I purchased an item they compliment, including clothing, shoes, accessories, etc.  I've even told people where I get my hair or nails done.  I gatekeep nothing.  😁

I have one friend that takes it a step further, asks how much I paid.

On everything.  Just purchased a piece of furniture last week, how much???

Amazes me.

Re: The Question: Where Did You Get That?

If someone asks me where I bought an item, I always share. I don't find it offensive or intruding, I take it as a compliment. I don't think anyone has asked about the price but I would share. It could turn into a sale for the company. It benefits all.

Re: The Question: Where Did You Get That?

When we used to drive to Naples, FL years ago ( 2 days ), I would find so many neat things at thrift shops there.  When friends are in my home, I point out what I found and brought back.  If I got an unbelievable deal, I will tell them what I paid so when they go there, they will know to look for deals.

When they come down for a visit, we go " shopping " at the newest thrift places.  They really seem to enjoy it and their treasures.

I do get that response almost daily with my workout attire. I think it's because I steer away from basic blacks and solids so it's always different from everyone else. From my experience people are sincere when they tell me they like what I'm wearing and some ask where I buy my clothes. I can honestly answer that I don't remember. Some things I've owned for 15+ years and truly don't remember. People often will look at me and point to my outfit and say, "once again I love your outfit".

I shop online daily and only buy what I absolutely love. And of course, everything matches and is full of color. I shop mostly off Ebay but everywhere else you can imagine.

I really don't care that they ask. I don't believe anybody has ever asked me how much I paid for anything but that would feel a little odd.

I love shopping on eBay!  It makes me feel so good when I find something special I have been hunting for!  There was a shoe that I loved, a wedge heeled sandal.  I dreaded the day they gave out.  Went on eBay, found the exact shoe, brand spanking new in my size!  Happy dance from me!

Re: The Question: Where Did You Get That?

@BunSnoop Many people (not saying you) are ashamed to say where they got stuff(Thrift Stores, etc). I think it is better not to ask.

Re: The Question: Where Did You Get That?

I have a different situation with shopping, many years ago in my younger days, my SIL and I would always go shopping together. Sometimes we would just window shop and have lunch until later I would see her in clothes that I had tried on but did not purchase at thst time. She would go back shopping and buy everything I liked (not a big deal but I felt at the time she was being sneaky) nowadays I could care less.

But the one thing she did that ended my shopping or telling her what I like was this experience, I needed a new dinning room table and was considering a hutch as well. I found one and really liked it but I wanted to discuss it with my husband first. Before I could go purchase it she called me and said you know that dinning set you liked, I purchased it today, it looks so good stop by and see it.

That was my last shopping experience or even telling her what I had purchased.

BTW: I found even a nicer dinning set later😉
