I have a couple of friends that often will say they like something of mine (clothing, shoes, home decor, jewelry, etc.) and after the compliment next they'll say "where did you get it"?
Perhaps they sincerely like my taste and want to know where I shop so they can shop there too??
However, sometimes I just don't feel like telling them where I buy every single thing. Sometimes I tell them where it's from, sometimes I say, "I've had it a while and don't really remember" or I'll say "online".
How about you - do you have friends/relatives that often ask that question too? If so, how do you respond?

They ask, I tell them.

This was many years ago,but for so long I didn't know anyone who shopped or would admit to shopping QVC. If Isaid Ibought something here I would get the side eye so Iwould just say I got it online.

Shrug and shake you head...and say "I honestly don't remember".
Actually, it's pretty rude of them to ask...although I have a relative who asks "How much did ya pay for that?"

To me, what is even worse is when they ask how much I paid for something. Especially big ticket items, like house or car. I've had friends ask how much I got for a trade in, etc. No boundaries.

If it's a friend, I'll tell them where I bought it.
If it's someone I don't know well, I may just say that it was a gift, bought it on vacation, or I've had it a long time and don't remember. Depends on who is asking and if they seem sincere or are just being nosy.
Even worse than "where" is the question of "how much did you pay for that". And some can be quite insistent that you tell them. But I always refuse and then stay clear of them.

I do get that response almost daily with my workout attire. I think it's because I steer away from basic blacks and solids so it's always different from everyone else. From my experience people are sincere when they tell me they like what I'm wearing and some ask where I buy my clothes. I can honestly answer that I don't remember. Some things I've owned for 15+ years and truly don't remember. People often will look at me and point to my outfit and say, "once again I love your outfit".
I shop online daily and only buy what I absolutely love. And of course, everything matches and is full of color. I shop mostly off Ebay but everywhere else you can imagine.
I really don't care that they ask. I don't believe anybody has ever asked me how much I paid for anything but that would feel a little odd.

I hate it. It has been normalized, though, because of all the comments the salespeople make. When telling you how awesome their item is, they say, "people will stop you and ask where you got it" as if that's the highest compliment.
I think it's rude. If I make a comment, I just say the top (or whatever) is very pretty. It's none of my business where they shop.

I guess no one likes the way I dress!!! because I can count on one hand the times someone complimented me on what I was wearing--LOL!!! And no one has ever asked me where I bought something!!

If someone is interested enough to compliment me and be interested in knowing where I purchased something, I gladly tell them.
I've sent friends and strangers here to take a look at Barefoot Dreams cardigans and Laura Geller. ![]()
