How cool to have not only your childhood marbles, but your Dad's cigar box.   I have to ask (call it a nerdy MacDuff thang lol)...when you open the lid, do you get a whiff of cigars?

@MacDUFF The cigar box is what his cigars came in when he bought them. He had lots of those boxes. It said .15¢ each on the box. No it does not smell like cigars. I've had that box of marbles for 50 yrs. Collected them when I was a kid in Hawaii form 65-69. They put those cigars in cardboard boxes now if you are lucky.

Dad now uses a humidor but has not smoked cigars in years. He chews on it. Bad habit. Guess it's better then smoking them. Expensive though. I'm sure DH will end up with his humidor.

Being a kid in Hawaii...I'll bet that was cool!

I tried to find my drawstring bag with my marbles to post, but can't find it right now...it'll show up eventually.

I got kind of philosophical...which is part and parcel of being a nerd lol...thinking about how smell can bring back memories...you opening the cigar box and being transported to childhood days in Hawaii playing marbles.

One whiff of spaghetti sauce simmering on the stove, and I'm instantly in my Grandmother's kitchen.

There's a wonderful quote by some French philosopher about memory residing in scents...I couldn't find it, but will post it if I come across it.  This quote was second best to give you an idea of what I'm babbling about lol...

...One scent can be unexpected, momentary and fleeting, yet conjure up a childhood summer beside a lake in the mountains.  Diane Ackerman
