The Daily Positive Thread for Saturday

Hello my friends!  Today was busy - fish fry tonight - our cousin joined us and also Lori and Jeremy. Then visiting over here at the apartment.  Was my cousin's first time here to see it.  Also today my husband has a date booked in April for Darla's baby shower.  Looks like they are girls!  She is told by her doctor that she may have to be on bed rest in May already.  Keep those prayers going, friends!!! They are much appreciated!

I will try to get the thread out tomorrow before we leave, as it will be overnight.  If I don't, I just didn't have time.

Keep your feet firmly planted in your faith and your eyes raised to the heavens.
Lord, You are my strength, my encouragement and my source of all that is good.

"To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul.  O my God, in you I trust; do not let me
be put to shame."  ~Psalm 25:1-2

I can link up my frail nature with God's limitless power.  I can link my
life with God's force for good in the world.  It is not the passionate
appeal that gains God's attention as much as the quiet placing of our
difficulties and worries in God's hands.  So I can trust God like a child
who places its tangled skein of wool in the hands of a loving mother to
unravel.  We can please God more by our unquestioning confidence than by
imploring God for help.

P R A Y E R   F O R   T H E   D A Y

I pray that I may put all my difficulties in God's hands and leave them
there.  I pray that I may fully trust God to take care of them.

Lenten Reflections by Bishop Robert Barron

Lent Day 10
Rejoice in Our Suffering

St. Paul reflected often on suffering. In his letter to the Colossians, the apostle says, “Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ” (Colossians 1:24).

In his letters, Paul frequently attests to his great suffering. He was beaten, shipwrecked, imprisoned many times, rejected by his own people, and he suffered under the weight of some ailment—physical or psychological, we don’t really know—for the whole of his life. Finally, of course, he was put to death. He was a man who knew about pain.

But here he tells us that he rejoices in his sufferings because, somehow, they are joined to the sufferings of Christ.

How do we understand this? Well, Christ saved us through an act of suffering. He died for us on the cross, bearing in his own person the weight of our sin. On the cross, suffering and love coincided. And when you think of it, every act of love involves suffering, since love always involves bearing the burden of another.

Now in Paul’s vision, the Church is not a society or a collectivity of like-minded people. Rather, it is a body, made up of interdependent cells, molecules, and organs. We don’t just follow Christ or admire him; we participate in him. Baptism involves just this dynamic of identification and participation.

Therefore, we shouldn’t be surprised that we will be called upon to suffer. We have been given the privilege of carrying on Christ’s work in the world in just this way.

Charles Williams speaks of the principle of co-inherence as key to Catholicism. This is the idea that we are connected to one another much as the organs and systems of a living body are connected.

Thus, just as one system can take up the work of another, or one organ the burden of another that is ailing, so can one member of the body of Christ bear the burden of another.

In accord with Paul’s master idea, we can consciously offer our suffering—physical, spiritual, psychological—to Christ in order that he might use it, in his own mysterious manner, to benefit someone else. Christ allows us to minister through our pain.

Verse of the Day

"Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the end of the earth I call to you, when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I; for you are my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy. Let me abide in your tent forever, find refuge under the shelter of your wings."

Psalm 61:1-4

IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER

I would have talked less and listened more.

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained and the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the 'good' living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.

I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried about grass stains. I would have cried and laughed less while watching television - and more while watching life.

I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.

I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, "Later. Now go get washed up for dinner."

There would have been more "I love yous"... more "I'm sorrys"...but mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute... look at it and really see it...live it...and never give it back.

God Be With YOU
May God's peace and joy be yours
and stay with you throughout each day;
May you walk in faith believing that
all good things He sends your way.

May you never cease to thank Him
for the blessings you've received;
May your faith keep on increasing
more than when you first believed.

May you find some time each and
every day to study His word and
pray;
Faithfulness is necessary to follow
closely in His pathway.

The rewards He gives are plentiful
when we give to Him our all;
And we know the answers to our
prayers will come when on His name
we call!

We have His blessed assurance when
we put in Him our trust;
And we know when God is with us,
no one can stand against us!

February 19 - Jesus Calling

You are feeling weighed down by a plethora of problems, both big and small. They seem to require more and more of your attention, but you must not give in to those demands. When the difficulties in your life feel as if they’re closing in on you, break free by spending quality time with Me. You need to remember who I am in all My Power and Glory. Then, humbly bring Me your prayers and petitions. Your problems will pale when you view them in the Light of My Presence. You can learn to be joyful in Me, your Savior, even in the midst of adverse circumstances. Rely on Me, your Strength; I make your feet like the feet of a deer, enabling you to go on the heights.

God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”
—Exodus 3:14

Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights.
