Speaking of cats...
My father never let me have a pet, although I was allowed to let one on our back porch to pet. My grandmother fed her and let her inside when my father wasn't home.
The first thing I did when I was in school in LA was get a white kitty I saw in the window of a pet shop. She was MY soulmate kitty. She rode in the car with me from the LA area to SF for holidays and to see my parents, back and forth, numerous trips with a litterbox on the backseat floor. She never went outside, but someone tried to take her from me once and it was an incredible Lassie come home story.
Now we have two girls. They are so good, not destructive.

FERN BARS!
Henry Africa's, the leader of the pack:
I use to go with dates or girlfriends to HA and the Elephant Bar in S a n Francisco in the 60,s. They were both on Van Ness Ave more towards the bay than Market St. Good old days. Then I got married.
Our paths may have crossed there @qvcaddition It was such a great place to hang out.

UGH! I started out bright & early to San Jose. Had barely left the driveway when I saw that my air pressure light was on. I have a small portable compressor I carry in the car, so put air in all the tires to the recommended pressure. The light won’t go out!
I drove home about 2-1/2 mi and the light still won’t go out. Rechecked the air pressure. Niece’s DH also rechecked the air pressure - it’s fine now.
I called the car dealership in Gilroy & explained. They said the light might stay on for a while and then go out when the tires are warmed up. So, I’ll be driving to Gilroy in half an hour to have them check it out. If the light goes out halfway there, I’m good, but I still need a couple of things - new tire caps and new wiper blades.
But...my adventure to Spaghetti Factory is shot today :-(
ETA that the museum is open tomorrow so I may try again.

Oh, bummer @Moonchilde
I am having a stressful day also, had to get ready early and move things around for a two part mattress delivery. I won't go into the boring details, but it's taken hours already.

The air light went out so that's good to go. They gave me free tire caps. I'll have to get wiper blades another time, Parts was closed. Waiting for a turkey dinner at Mimi's, with a Stella. I deserve it! And I will then shop, since that s all there is to do here! Hope your day improves @Noel7

@Moonchilde...we have a Santa Ana moving into our area. It's supposed to get to 102 in my part of town Mon/Tues.
My Tortie is not bothered by the heat, but my other cat lays in front of the A/C in the living room. The past two days have been just beautiful. Oh well.

My Navy husband and I have been in Southern California over 10 years now.
We moved in here right after we got married.
I was born and raised in Japan, but I've been here almost 1/3 of my life and feel like this is my home, I LOVE California and this country. ![]()

@catwhisperer, I hate Santa Anas!
Besides heat and dust, they did a number on my allergies, made my skin & hair dry & static-y, and just set everyone on edge until they were gone. You have my sympathies about both the wind and the heat.
Most of my kitties have disliked a/c and even fans blowing on them, but I had one kitty who loved it.
I lived in an apt with a whole-unit box in the living room near the floor instead of up high. When I’d come home from work in hot weather, if he thought I wasn’t movimg fast enough he’d sit in front of the a/c and look from me to it and back again until I turned it on, then he’d sit in front of it, fur blowing, like “Ahhh, that’s better!”

@Moonchilde....yup, I will be sneezing and blowing my nose like crazy. I often get nose bleeds as well when it it is really dry. My Tortie hates the fan or A/C blowing on her. Our LR A/C is near the floor, so the other kitty sits there with his fur blowing. LOL. This too shall pass. I am ready for winter in SD!

Hi @Meowshmarrow, and welcome :-)
Many Japanese people seem to love CA - lots of them come as tourists, all over the state.
I’m always amused by tourists from other countries who think the desert is fabulous (I once hosted a group of ladies from England for whom Joshua Tree was an absolute Must See), or who just love driving in the desert. Me...not so much ;-) It has its charms, but I enjoy them in small doses.
