And it was cheap.  I used what I already have--my Lug bag and a Joan Rivers bee pin...

(Sorry I couldn't take a picture of the whole bag.  It was too big to post that way.)

I can't believe I didn't buy this one.  I always admired it.

It's one of the few pieces of hers I've kept over the years.

I'm just not into jewelry at all anymore.

I still can't believe I collected so much of it.  I really need to think about what I'm going to do with it.

I guess I should be happy that I don't have to sell any to be able to live...yet.

Re: The Bee Hive -- May 2026 Edition

@just bee , @geezerette , @cowboy sam ,   ditto ditto ditto on excess jewelry!  I'm annoyed to have accumulated it.

I collected some vintage when I lived in New Orleans, Canada, and then had some stuff from QVC in the early 2000's.

A while back, I emailed an antique dealer out of the blue, one town over.  Very nice shop, select items. He said he was interested to see what I have.

So I scooped up a smattering of things I can live without, in a smallish paper bag.  It was almost all vintage costume.  Had a few Edwardian or Victorian agate pieces, some Art Deco, some sterling, but mostly retro costume jewelry.

We went through it, and he took the majority of them. There was very little gold -- for example, an English Victorian agate brooch, in a low-karat gold, a tiny pair of flimsy 10 kt. gold earrings.

So, my point is that there was very little of intrinsic metal value, but he still took most of my cache.  I walked out with $678, which was more than I thought I'd get!

So, it's one way to move the stuff on, contacting an antique store that handles jewelry, if you have ANYTHING you consider to be sort of "collectable".

I bet lots of Joan Rivers' stuff would fall under that, and Kenneth Jay Lane, etc.

Disappointed to hear that he can't really move cultured or freshwater pearls, no matter the quality.  But he did like nice sterling pieces, things with gold, marcasite, things that look and are vintage.

Anyway, worth considering.

Re: The Bee Hive -- May 2026 Edition

[ Edited ]

Any jewelry I would consider selling is gold and precious stones, mostly diamonds, and all gifts from my husband.  My options here are pretty limited and I know I wouldn't get much from anyone local.  There is one place in the state that advertises about once a year they have an 'estate' jewelry event when you can bring yours in for appraisal.  That might be my best bet if I ever do decide to sell.

In the meantime, just the thought of having to dispose of it makes my head hurt so I continue to do @just bee proud by procrastinating about it all. 😉

Re: The Bee Hive -- May 2026 Edition

I bought so much fashion jewelry from celebrities and designers on QVC over the years.  Mostly Joan Rivers, but also Kenneth J. Lane and Nolan Miller.

You'll hear less from me on the boards due to computer issues. At first I though I was banned, but a moderator looked me up and there are no restrictions listed under my name.  My goal is to get on the boards for a half hour each day using our laptop.
