@Desert Lily.  I l8ve in an ordinary, suburban subdivision.  I guess the chased all the varmits out when the land was developed in early '80s.

I think new-builds may have more problems.

USA Today article printed about 8 hours ago, the below is a portion of the article.

Across the United States, in California, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico and Texas, tens of thousands of tarantulas will being crawling out of their burrows in search of females – making for a fascinating, if a little creepy – display of the wonders of nature.

It’s tarantula mating season.

I'm hoping the road runners in my neighborhood take care of these for me. 😁

@Travone. Roadrunners themselves can be vicious killers of other birds.  I've seen them with dead baby birds in their beaks.   They are known killers of hummingbirds.  They smash their prey on the ground repeatedly until it's dead.

Well, yes, there's that.

When Better-half and I worked for the same company, he called my cubicle one morning and told me to look out the window.

It was a roadrunner and a baby bunny.

Amazingly, we're still on speaking terms.  (Roadrunners have to eat, too.)

I think that's how they render their larger prey immobile so they can eat it.  I've most often seen them with lizards.

I remember them from living in OKC, you could just see them walking down the road in groups.  Once my sister and I were playing on our swingset in the back yard and up walks a tarantula.  We yelled our heads off until daddy came out with a board and stepped on it.  I used to have a lot of nighmares about spiders, not sure if this incident contributed or the movie "The Incredible Shrinking Man."

@Desert Lily   Those are some horrific stories you told.  I don't think I could live there!
