California, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico and Texas are the most likely states to see "hordes" of tarantulas, due to mating season.

@Kachina624 Lucky you!  I would freak if I saw one of them!!  I have seen videos of a rattle snake under the kitchen sink of someone's home and they had to get a professional to remove it.

My mother lived in South Florida for 30 years and in all that time neither of us actually saw a gator in the wild!  Yet there are bodies of water (behind her condo) all over FL.

During my two years of living in Central Texas I did see one rattlesnake sunning itself at the pool we had in our backyard. The house was on 7 acres and built back in the '50's. I could not tell you how many scorpions I saw while living there.  I had the home exterminated every month to keep them down and luckily we were never stung. Watcing tv one night I felt something on my foot and looked down to see a scorpion was headed up the inside of my bluejeans.  I screamed and kicked my way almost back to East Texas.

@gizmogal  Did the article mention from where the tarantulas are appearing from?  Were the males in hibernation somewhere?

Across the United States, in California, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico and Texas, tens of thousands of tarantulas will being crawling out of their burrows in search of females – making for a fascinating, if a little creepy – display of the wonders of nature.

It’s tarantula mating season.

@Travone. Roadrunners themselves can be vicious killers of other birds.  I've seen them with dead baby birds in their beaks.   They are known killers of hummingbirds.  They smash their prey on the ground repeatedly until it's dead.
