Re: Supplemental Dental Insurance?

I have had several Dentists tell me that a dentist will sometimes charge more money (I know they aren't supposed to but they do) for a procedure when people have dental insurance, it all ends up ALMOST the same price.

Years ago we had dental insurance, but we didn't have many dental issues.  I never felt like it was worth the money, but my late husband liked it.  To each his own.  I have something called "Dry Mouth" caused by medicine.  It has done a major job on my teeth.  I have an amazing dentist but it has cost me way over (swear to you, over....$20,000 to keep from having false teeth.  They look wonderful, but good grief!  I always make sure they don't look perfect.  He thinks I'm crazy because making teeth look beautiful is his speciality....but I say, "I'm 70 years old, I don't want to look like the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland".  Ha!

@Abrowneyegirl

I totally agree.  I am not recommending Aflac (nor am I not recommending it - sorry for the 2 negatives) – just providing information that answers OP’s original question as to whether or not there was such a plan available to consider.   I am like most of the people who posted, once I figured out the math I decided it was better to go without dental insurance.  And I agree that this is one area that is sorely lacking in good affordable individual coverage.

Re: Supplemental Dental Insurance?

Delta Dental is only good if it's employer paid benefit. My husband went for a cleaning one day early and they denied the claim even though they were suppose to pay for it.

We dropped kick their rumps and started our own dental savings plan when he retired with a pension that was suppose to pay him 400 then "recalulated" when he got ready to draw it down to 165 we just use it for dental fund now.

They're good at raising the rates and denying claims though. LOL
