Re: Snow-bound inside today - anybody else?

I shopped yesterday to prepare for unknown time home.  The plow came through about an hour ago and will come back at some point to salt.  I have an inch of ice from early last night under about 6" of snow on my porch on the south side.  Looks higher on the north side due to drifting.   We hit 50 on Thursday and early Friday which melted the snow and ice from the previous storm.   We have been told more snow, ice and below normal temperatures to come all next week.   As long as I have electricity I am fine.

I also have 4 x 16 lbs of dry cat food and 10 cans.  9 cats were here for a late breakfast so they are okay for now. (I had to shovel the porch so all could eat.  2 "need" to eat alone or so they think.)  My max this winter is 15 during the last extreme storm. Footprints came down from the road, from the woods and a single line from under my shed.  I have no idea where some of them stay but they know where Grannies Diner is.   ;-).

Last night the raccoon came late so she only got the remains.  In this weather I couldn't ask her to leave without a little to eat.  3 came a couple of times the last storm.  Everybody appears to have good heavy coats to date and appear to be healthy.

Wow, @OKPrincess, it must be cold where you are!  We are in the low teens with lots of snow and ice.  Husband loves his snow blower and being outside.  He lives for winter storm warnings!  We live on a small block with little traffic and have great neighbors. So from 10 until noon, he was out blowing off five driveways while I shoveled porches. I made a snow angel in each yard.

When we came in, I made coffee and he fixed sandwiches. Now we are watching Gunsmoke. He’s reading the paper, too.

Love days like this. I hope everyone is warm and enjoying a peaceful day.

Re: Snow-bound inside today - anybody else?

We have the best neighbors, @QVCkitty1.  The woman beside us  loves to bake but has to watch her carbs. So we benefit. Her desserts look bakery made but taste better. Another neighbor is 90 but was very active outside until a few years ago. She took great care of her invalid husband for 14 years.  She grows African violets and has given me some beautiful ones.

The list goes on.  We had thought about moving last summer to a one-story home, but we like this neighborhood too much. We get more than we give.

Don't say the S word.  When I woke up, it was 59 but it's 34 now.  It's sunny and the snow on the ground has all but melted.  I'm surprised that it's so sunny, I thought it was supposed to be rainy today.

I feel for you @Goldengate8361.  Been there, done that and Neither do I like the feeling of being trapped!

Looks like we dodged a bullet here in MA.  Heavy rains followed by a deep freeze had been forecasted.  Looks like the strong winds took it all away.  But, temps are going down and snow for Tues, Wed, Thurs predicted but they're not sure when or how much.

Hope we get it all wrapped up by February and have an early spring!

I'm in MA too and I wondered where the heavy rain and deep freeze went.  They forecasted it for days.  My friends and I rescheduled a lunch so we wouldn't be driving around in such bad weather.....and then.....nothing.  Warm temps and sun.  Huh?  But I'm not complaining.  The forecasts were totally wrong but in a good way.

Re: Snow-bound inside today - anybody else?

I love being snowbound and home!  But then, I'm happiest at home no matter the season.

Our weather went from 60 yesterday morning to 10 overnight.  We had heavy rains change to sleet and then woke up to 12" of fresh snow this morning.

BF usually works weekends, but he took Sat and Sun off to go away, a trip that got cancelled due to weather.  So we are both home and enjoying a leisurely pace.  I went out and shoveled the areas he can't reach with the snow blower and then he went out and cleared the driveway and the sidewalks.  I refilled the bird feeders and checked the heated water dish.  All is well.

There was a travel advisory for the morning, but that's expired now, and if we get a hankering for takeout dinner we'll get it.  Otherwise we're enjoying some rare R & R time together.  It's nice to not have plans Smiley Happy

Stay warm friends.

Re: Snow-bound inside today - anybody else?

We had quite a storm yesterday in middle Ohio. Heavy rain first (flood watches), then freezing rain, then snow that blew sideways with such strong winds. Most counties around us have level 2 snow emergencies right now, and because of drifting, I'm not sure how many inches we actually got overnight, but I'd say maybe 6.

Staying home all weekend. Made some home made soup last night, and other cold weather foods to get us through the weekend without having to cook.

I don't mind being home this time of year. I remember the years I worked, having to drive in bad weather, go to work even when I was sick (I was a manager, and it never failed that when I got sick, three other people would call off and I'd have to get there), slog through the bitter cold, and I'm ever so grateful that I don't have to do that anymore.

There is more than enough work, books, movies and tv shows to keep me entertained for the months that we face these kinds of conditions. I sometimes don't leave the property for a week or more at a time, and am happy not to, this time of year.

HI,  Ct. here,  we had 2 days of very heavy rain and wind.  At 4 a.m. today it was 62, now at 4 p.m. it's down to 31 and getting cold again.  I don't mind the cold at all,  all our snow is gone...Smiley Sad   I actually like winter over summer....even at 72 yrs. of age,   LOL!   I don't mind being in for 4 or 5 days,  as long as we have our electricity,  t.v., computer, and I can cook and clean....take hot showers....I am happy.   I just made a huge pot of chili  for dinner.  My 3 cats are all sleeping....like angels...(but they are not!)  stay warm and healthy everyone...  Hubby is watching UCONN women's basketball....he loves it.

(not me, I don't do sports)  we are enjoyong a glass of wine before dinner.  I didn't enjoy yesterday's 62 at all, it's just now normal for January in New England.  But, don't want the -9 back either, LOL.   Let's just keep it at SNOW temperture...HaHa.
