Re: Snow Much Fun!

[ Edited ]

@AnikaBrodie    I just saw the post that Ed had A-fib and is on a heart monitor. I'm glad he had the appointment and they diagnosed it.
I'm keeping you both in my prayers, take care!

@Sweet Caroline 1   If it is his bladder alone, your niece-in-law may already have done this, put bladder replacement surgery in the google search box, these do not require a bag.  There are several types and the page will explain them.  A  colostomy bag is for colon issues, not urinary, but there is a bag for that.

I don't think enough testing has been done on your nephew, as I would think a diagnosis would have been given by now.  What type of specialist is he seeing?  He needs a second opinion.

At the time, I posted DH's PSA saga, here it is again, just in case.

I had assumed that he was having a PSA test yearly, and when I found out he was not, I hit the ceiling.  It took a month of my nagging for him to get a test, it was high, but the quack so-called doctor told him to come back in three months, and that older men were not tested, I find this an outrage as these men are most likely to get caner.

I nagged for another month until he gave in and went back for another test. The results were off the wall, so off for testing, had to nag him to keep on the insurance for approval, another two weeks, then scans when a tech or doctor said right there that this cannot wait, it had spread to his spinal area and a few other places.

He opted for the Cyberknife procedure, injections every three months, PSA tests, in addition to scans a few times a year.

Wow @mousiegirl,  You've touched on things that I havn't looked up.  I talked with my sister tonight (thursday night) about this article that I found on line.  If you want to, look up... Cleveland Clinic Urinary Retention.  There is a lot of information there about Acute Bladder Retention.  I told her that I'm backing up to the very beginning of when things went wrong.  I should have said... permanent urine collection bag instead of colostomy bag.  Sorry about that.  I've already looked up bladder transplants and they aren't being done yet.  There is a lot of delicate and intricrate veins and such.  I agree, he needs more testing.  I looked up Cybertesting just now and I havn't come across it in my rechearch.  I wrote it down and will call my sister about it when the time isn't so late.  I'm very grateful to you for your knowledge and information and sharing it with me.

His bladder was full and backing up into his kidneys.  When his tests came back, his doctor called him and told him to go to the emergency room immediately and have a catheter treatment.  His kidney numbers were high but have since settled down after the cathetering has kept his bladder emptied and not backing up into his kidneys.  Now his doctor is testing his prostate.  I think that tests should be done to see what is blocking his bladder.  It could be many things.

I wish that he would reserch and find a good urologist here in B'ham and slow down and do testing on why his bladder will not empty.  The why of it.  Maybe it could be delt with.  Sorry this is so long.  I'm trying to make sure I'm explaining everything correctly.

Yes, your husband should be getting those PSA tests.  All men should get that yearly test.  Like women should get their yearly mamograms.  It's life saving.

It's almost 2 o'clock in the morning here.  I sleep sometimes and I'm up sometimes.  I worked 3rd shift for such a long time.  Take care of your precious husband and yourself dear friend!  Love you!  Heart

@Sweet Caroline 1   I did not mention cyer testing, I mentioned the Cyberknife procedure when cancer has spread.

Bladder replacements have been done for decades.

"Bladder replacement surgery, also known as urinary diversion, is a procedure that removes the bladder and replaces it with a new reservoir for storing urine. This may be necessary for conditions such as bladder cancer, severe bladder infections, or neurogenic bladder dysfunction."  This procedure has been done for decades.

Types of Bladder Replacement:

    • Neobladder: A pouch created from a section of the small or large intestine that is placed in the same location as the original bladder. It allows urine to be stored and expelled through the urethra.

    • Urinary Diversion: A system that redirects urine to an external bag or stoma on the abdomen.

  • Continent Diversion: A type of urinary diversion that creates an internal reservoir, such as a pouch made from the rectum or colon, but requires the use of a catheter to drain urine.

Procedure:
The surgery typically involves removing the bladder and then creating a new reservoir. The new reservoir is connected to the ureters (tubes that carry urine from the kidneys) and the urethra (tube that carries urine out of the body).

There is a lot of information on this by googling.  I think, as I suggested, the fact that his PSA is high, that should have been retested.  An oncologist would be seen for any type of cancer, if found.

Apparently, his wife does the reasearch as I did and am doing, then I send the link to DH, so important to research, as you know.

@AnikaBrodie   About ten or so years ago, I awoke during the night to my heart racing, a horrible feeling.  I got up and took my blood pressure and my heart rate was 117, so the next day, I saw my former PC.  She fooled around for a month trying different meds while I suffered, could have died, and finally I told her I needed a cardiologist,  I had to wait another month, saw him, was put on flecainide and have been managing very well since then.  I periodically, have palpitations which are horrible, but since the med was increased last Fall, have had hardly any.

I know what bone on bone feels like, my hip, dislocated in a childhood roller skating accident, was that way, was on crutches for one year and did well for many decades until one day I fell to my knees, was holding onto DH's arm at the time or I would have been on the ground, and began taking a med for three years, waiting for DD to walk, then had the replacement, first time I had walked without pain since the accident.

Is the reason knee surgery is not an option?  Bone on bone is horrible pain.

Years ago, my knees were clicking so I bought andrew Lessman's Glucosamine Chondroiton, helps to buid cartilage bettween bones, and the clicking eventually stipped.  I think it may have helped during the horrible falls I have had on my knees.

"Chondroitin is a natural substance found in cartilage, the connective tissue that cushions joints. It is a type of glycosaminoglycan (GAG), a complex sugar molecule."

Good morning Friends.  I hope all of you have a wonderful Friday with many blessings.

Our snow storm (Thursday) was a dud and that's okay with us.  I think it all went south of PA.  I know some of the southern states have a lot of snow, some 8 to 10 inches.  This has been a difficult winter for everyone.  Today our temp should reach 32 with a bit of sun and next week might be in the 40's.

Ed has his annual appointment with his cardiologist this morning.  He was diagnosed with A-fib many years ago.  He's been on Eliquis for over a year based on her recommendation.  He was on Warfarin many years before that.  Hoping for good news!  We really like her and know that she is very thorough and detail oriented.

Everyone:  Stay safe and warm and happy.  Love to all.....

@Tissyanne

After Ed's appointment we plan to get ingredients for your pinto bean soup.  I have never made this soup before but we love regular bean soup so think we'll like it so long as it's not too spicy.  Yesterday I checked the Internet for pinto bean soup recipes and most I saw didn't use meat but I think ground beef or chicken will add to the flavor.  Smiley Happy

@AnikaBrodie  I had leftover refried pinto beans, so heated them, put on a bwl, and put two poached eggs on top, DELICIOUS!

I used to make vats of these beans, but now use Bush's canned pinto beans, they are the best of all the brands, and use one can per meal for tacos, just mash while heating, season or not, add a bit of oil, and viola.

@1Snickers   One day I wanted something sweet, and had no bread except English Muffins so decided to try them.  I now eat them for dessert.  I used to use French bread, but the muffs are always here so use them now.  I only put Mrs. Butterworth's syrup on them with a sliced banana.  I soak the halves in one egg and some milk, then slowly fry.

How do you make French toast?

@AnikaBrodie

You and Ed are in my prayers. He is lucky to have such unwavering support from you. I think of him when I have my cancer scans as his experience came shortly before mine.
