Perhaps this will make QVC shoppers feel better about shipping charges.  I just began an order for a $49.99 top from one of my catalogs.  The shipping charge was $12.99.  And goodness, I could receive my item in two business days for $21.95.  Makes me appreciate our QVC $3.00 shipping charge.

That company does not refund shipping charges on returns either and their return postage label is either $7.95 or $8.95 - I forget which.  The $12.99 made me change my mind and decide I didn't need that top.  In reading the reviews for it, some were saying it ran small, so I wasn't sure what size to order and didn't feel like paying $21 if I had to return it.

@KathyM23

For me? I prefer buying most of my needs from prime. Almost always 2 days, and I only purchase items with free shipping.

@hckynut

I just placed a first order through Amazon for my DH - The shipplng charge was $10.98 on a $28 item - so when the pop up offered free shipping if you signed up for a 30-day free trial for Prime, I took advantage of that and got the free shipping.  I am wondering what the cost is for Prime, it was not included in the sign up offer.  I don't shop at Amazon so I most likely will not continue with Prime, but I am curious about the cost, etc.  Any info would be appreciated.

@KathyM23. Prime is 119.00 per year. For me it is great. Receive orders 2days. Order many books, vitamins clothing etc. No car trip to mall. Trying to find parking space salesperson plus free returns to Amazon. Have never had a poor experience. Save time gas etc. LOVE IT!!!

I know there has been a lot of discussions about shipping charges at QVC but I have no problem with them.  I do not use Amazon that much so paying $119 for prime is a waste of money for me.

As you said, some of these catalogs charge a lot for shipping.  I was goiing to buy a $20 shirt but the shipping was $11.00.  Also, if I needed to return it that was another $10.

I'm satisfied with QVC.

I occasionally order from Blair.  Just bought a windbreaker jacket from them.  Their shipping charges are high but several times during the year they offer free shipping for days at a time.    That's when I order.   It seems to me that QVC rarely offers free shipping and when it does it's just for a particular day or item.

This is how I feel as well.

We "pay" for shipping and handling from any company whether it's a member fee or it's added into overall merchandise cost (built in instead of a few added to our checkout) or the going rate the site lists. Jmho I think it balances out regardless of who we order from.

  • Prime is definitely worth it if you shop online very often. Make sure you cancel within the time limit if you don't want to continue with Prime. They charged me for it without my permission and it took me forever to get my money refunded. It works out to about $10 a month for the shipping and that's a bargain when you look at what you pay elsewhere.
