Good Shabbos to all who observe!  May all of us enjoy a safe, joyful and rewarding weekend and week ahead!

MOMMAVik, thank you for starting this week's thread.  As for the Halloween candy, I have been unable to resist the Mounds bars meant for the trick-or-treaters.  After hearing on the news that children's least favorite candies to receive on Halloween are Mounds and Almond Joy, I feel a bit less guilty.

Today, October 28, is an important date in Greek history and the repulsion of fascism in Europe during World War II.  October 28 is OXI (OHI) DAY.  "OXI" (pronounced "Ohee") is the Greek word for "no."

28th October 1940 - The Day Greece said a Loud OXI - NO - to Mussolini
and the 2nd World War Took a Different Turn!

"Until now we used to say that the Greeks fight like heroes.
Now we shall say: The heroes fight like Greeks."
Sir Winston  Churchill - Prime Minister United Kingdom
(From a speech he delivered from the BBC in the first days of the  Greco-Italian war)

OXI Day commemorates the day that Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas rejected the ultimatum given by Italian dictator, Benito Mussolini, on October 28, 1940.

This ultimatum, a demand that Greece allow Axis forces to enter Greek territory or otherwise face war, was presented to Metaxas by the Italian Ambassador in Greece, Emanuele Grazzi, on October 28, 1940, at dawn (04:00 AM), ironically enough after a party in the German Embassy in Athens. Metaxas, is supposed to have immediately answered with a single word:

 'OXI'

It is believed that Greece's resistance allowed the Soviet Union, our ally at that time, to prepare and then repel Hitler's advance.  The Soviet Union gained time when Greece  refused to allow Mussolini's troops to cross the Greek border.

Many believe World War II took a turn in favor of the Allies because of the resistance of poorly equipped people who showed courage.

Thanks @MOMMAVik  for getting us started.

Shabbat Shalom to all who are welcome here each week. Hoping all who need peace, are suffering loss or in bad health can find friendship with us on this thread.

Helping the GDs put their costumes together, but keeping quiet about the expected rain.

Wishing all a beautiful fall weekend. 💕

Good Shabbos everybody!  Hope your weather is turning cold like it is here.

My 95-year-old dad will be having surgery next week to remove skin cancer on the top of his head.  They have said they will need to do a skin graft from his shoulder.  That will make it messier.  Luckily he won't be staying in the hospital unless something complicated happens.  He keeps telling me he needs time to study for his driver's license test.Heart

kutira, your father is a feisty 95-year-old.  Bless him!  He is still driving, eh?

The skin graft does make his procedure more complex, but I hope and pray he does well.
