We get 5 – 10 scam calls a day.  We never answer.  This has been going on for about 3 years now.  More calls/numbers have been coming in recently.  It’s beyond annoying.  We bought a call blocking device which has helped a lot but they keep changing numbers.

I was reading about a woman who was getting a lot of these calls so she decided to unplug her landline for a year.  After a year she plugged it back in the calls were still coming.  I don't think it matters if one answers or not.  Once you're on the list, you're on the list.  It feels like there’s no escape from this nuisance.

As I've mentioned on other posts on this subject, I have a Panasonic phone with call blocking capability.  Love it!  You can also elect to not even have the phone ring at all for those numbers you've blocked.  I don't choose that option, but the phone only rings once on a previously blocked number.    Love caller-ID.  Love call blocking!  HATE all these scammers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, it's unfortunate that people just don't understand how those calls work.  They engage these callers in conversation which is what they want.  I agree, they now know that this is valid phone number and the owner is extremely naive and will listen to anyone who calls her....which is the first step in any scam....getting the caller's attention and engaging the caller in a conversation.

Let me see now, since I have used the whistle on the ear I don't get anymore my computer has a virus call, I don't get anymore I have won a security system calls and I have not won any more cruises..

Don't worry, be Happy!

Mine have ramped up too.  It's been crazy for the last few weeks, even on my cell phone.

I have the CPR CallBlocker hooked up and that does a pretty decent job.  I have my phone through Comcast, so I don't have a copper line.  There are a few quirks when it works with this phone system.  But, I've gotten used to them and work around them.

I also just bought a new Panasonic phone and it has a call block button.

The blockers let me block entire area codes, international calls, etc.  That really helps.

Right now the scammers are spoofing local numbers to make you think the calls are legitimate.  If I don't know the number, I will wait for a message before I pick up the phone.

I usually don't answer my phone if I don't recognize the number, one time I did because I thought I recgnozied the number. It was a woman with a very thick accent that said "we got notice last week that your computer got virus" - aagghhh!!! Why did I answer!!! I told her I don't own a computer. Her response was "oh" then nothing but dead air, you'd think that response wouldn't have caught her off guard but I guess her script didn't have a reply for that.

I love when I get those calls at work.  I play with them (they don't realize that I do IT).  OMG....they get so frustrated and wind up hanging up on me.  It's like playing cat and mouse  Smiley Very Happy
