Is spellcheck just supposed to give suggestions of the correct spelling of words or automatically change it?

Darn this this new computer...setting it up is never ending.

Now adding "Dashlane" with all my go to sites with passwords so I can automatically sign in/log in...whatever.

It questions your spelling - points out possible error..........it's up to you to check the spelling and change it or not.

When I type an email, a box appears that says "ignore once", etc. You go down the the list with words that are questionable.

Different sites/different spell checks —. I have yet to find one I like unreservedly.

IIRC you select the correct spelling for your computer to  remember (forever and ever). Sooo, either click on "ignore once" or check a dictionary if uncertain. Once it's set up, you will be happy to have done it correctly! I know it's a hassle, but in the long run it's so worthwhile. Enjoy that new computer and all the fun functions it offers! Smiley Very Happy

@BirkiLady   It's such a pian in the bu*t. I've been setting up, learning, for months. DH purchased a MIcrosoft computer (laptop) as a gift, but there are no Microsoft stores to take lessons or go for help setting up. Apple gives free lessons when you purchase the laptop.

@Shanus  Is you husband proficient with that computer? Could he help you set it up? Months seems like a very long time to be attempting to use a new computer with ease. I'm sorry for your frustration.

Even if you have to "wing it" alone, in the long run setting it up correctly will be worth it. A reliable computer is such a life-line to the world, as well as a necessity if you do any work or education on it.

Are there any tutorials on-line to help? Best wishes.

@BirkiLady   DH is quite well versed with computers as a tax accountant and uses computers all day (& night). After he set up the basics, it was tax time, so I was left to my own devices. I do better learning by watching rather than reading. He's helping when he has spare time. Thanks, though.

Just remember, spell check isn't foolproof.  If you mean to type, say the word "rate" but instead type "rat" it won't catch it.   Always glance over before sending.

The new rat is so high that I decided to eat it and go elsewhere.
