This is surprising. Honestly, I didn't know Covid was still a thing.
I don't know anyone who's had it for at least two years! Wow.
@Tinkrbl44 - oh come on.
I had Covid for the first time at the end of March. I was pretty sick and had some significant post Covid effects. It wasn't "just a cold" for me. Of course Covid is still "a thing". Everyone knows that, I think it's horrible to try to trivialize an illness that killed over 1 million people in this country.

I don't think the covd vaccines info promote being able to prevent covd in most people. This should no longer be a misunderstanding.
They may help reduce the risk of getting covd but the main benefit is reducing the risk of severe or prolonged illness for someone who gets covd. Also reducing the risk for long covd.
This is from what the cdc says.
As we know many have gotten covd after getting the vaccine. The vaccines have shown to reduce the risk of hospitalization and death from covd.
Of course covd has never gone away. I can't believe anyone thinks it has.

@Luvsmyfam Why not? Did you discuss it with your doctor?

I also had no idea Covid was still a "thing". I haven't heard of anyone having it in a couple of years. DH may have had it a year or so ago, but it was never confirmed. We did a Covid test, but it was inconclusive. I haven't heard it mentioned on the news either. I had one Covid vaccine but when I went for my Flu vaccine (and covid) the following year the pharmacist didn't suggest it. But, I have had the shingle and pneumonia vaccines
I see my PCP a few times a year and she hasn't mentioned COVID for the past couple of years, either ... only if you want a flu shot. They're big on pushing flu shots.
And no, I don't know anyone who's had it in the past few years, either.

Yes, Covid is still a thing and word from a reliable medical source has it that it is not going away. I know several unvaccinated people who had it this year.

I've had a total of 3 covid vaccines although the 1st two shots were part 1 and part 2 from the original roll out.
Never again. I don't trust that vaccine at all and don't trust paxlovid either.
There was an article recently that listed the cities who had the current strain in the waste water and my city was one of them.
I don't go out much anymore at all and if necessary will wear a mask.I have a box of
KN95's.

Has Paxlovid, or anything helped you at all? (esp if prescribed w/in 5 days of COVID Sx onset)? What's the Docs say? What's helping you? Do you have the help you need?
I'm sooo grateful you posted abt this! 'Cause, my mind seems to have become too complacent & lazy-minded abt COVID, et al, (except to fear what I experience/perceive as our Gov'ts newest, seemingly lackadaisical (imho) approach to present/future Medical & the public, (incl ref: COVID)). I wasnt even sure I should continue to get my COVID shot updated this Autumn.
ugh! And here I am busting myself to try to get out and get back into increased exercise/mobility/socializing mode, mixing it more so with the public.
COVID hasnt been kind to my family, at all!
@Luvsmyfam I hope you continue to feel better & better & are able to get all the help you need.
Caring, continued fervent Prayers being sent your way. @Luvsmyfam I hope you feel better & better.
I think you put this really well.
Complacent might be a good word for the feelings about covd or even just more confident.
I started feeling too that maybe not necessary to wear a mask everywhere. Or feeling more free; to not be afraid to mix with a lot of others, even though up til recently I would be one of the few wearing a mask in the grocery store, even at drs offices etc.
Or yeah maybe not getting a vaccine every 6 months even though I was good about getting them before. I thought, I hate feeling sick after getting them, even for a few days. Paxlovd was awful for me the one time I had covd. I won't take that again.
I had that rebound effect. My cousin did too.
Even though several of my relatives, from NY to Colorado have gotten covd in the past year. And they were vaccinated.
But I've read too about the new strain spreading more. I hate reading the news but I do very quickly! Had just been talking about it with a friend.
If anyone reads any at all, the news about the new strain of covd spreading was hard to miss.
But think of this-Smallpox was eradicated from the human race.
Polio from all but last known case reported in Afghanistan in 2021.
So it is possible with "herd immunity" from vaccines to eradicate a virus. Wouldn't it be great if we could actually do that to covd too?! Just knock it off the face of the earth!
But something worked. Millions aren't dying from covd now but many still are.
Though even though many of us remember lining up for the polio vaccine taken in a sugar cube from kindergarten on, I can't see people agreeing to that for covd, as we have found.
There will always be very heated feelings about this as well as yes the conspiracy theories not based on any actual scientific proof.
And there is not much trust from many about the information that is put out there and many have changed feelings about this over the past few years.
For me, I guess I'll wear that hated mask more often. I won't be afraid like I was in 2020 for myself, even though I have reason to be, but I still fear for some of my family if they get it. I guess I'll get the vaccine again, though reluctantly, and maybe with not as much trust as before.I'll try to keep an open mind and continue to read respected medical info.
Though even doctors are not in total agreement on this. Last year I asked my PC if I should get a covd vaccine. He said up to me and he thought I didn't need to because I had immunity from getting vaccines before and having had covd. Though the vaccine effectiveness supposedly lasts for 6 months, not forever. So I think he just was over the vaccine. Interesting however he said get the flu shot!
They do push the flu shot a lot, don't they?! Pharmacies have signs advertising it. Maybe there is not the controversy with those as much. I don't get flu shots every year. I did get the pneumonia one which you only need once I believe, and the only one I had no reactions to thankfully! The senior flu shot had me sicker than when I had covd! The regular one was ok.
Still, I'm not going to line up for every vaccine for everything under the sun.
We all as always just need to do what we feel is the best thing we can do for ourselves and our families, with all the accurate information we can get.
