@Tinkrbl44 I agree with her, life is too short.

Re: Retirees, are you increasingly mindful about purchasing new items?

Yes I am.  I just shop now, but very rrarely buy.  Put items in a cart, then go back later aand usually decide I don;t need it.     If I see a great bargain I'll go for t.  A while a go Sams had a get $20 off if you bought 3 clothing items.  I got a warm jacket, a Lands End rain jacket for summer and some shorts for less $35.

I had to get a new furnsce this winter, boy are they  expensive.

I don't have a car and my county cut the bus routes near me so my grocery shopping is by order now.  Even with the driver's tip I'm saving by not impulse buying.

I do splurge once in a while.  At the holidays Aldi had beef tenderloins for $6.99/lb.  I bought 2 and broke them down into filets and meat for goulash.  If my Foodsaver dies I will most certainly buy another.

Honestly I do think about my age and what I buy.  I have changed a lot of habits because I'm not as long (expected at least) on this planet, and won't be taking stuff when I leave.  What will I use up, not use, not need. . . etc.

I do not have anyone to leave everything to when I die.  My husband passed away, we had no children, my one brother who I had planned on leaving everything to along with his wife, have not supported me at all so now I need to get a new will as I don't want to leave them anything.  My problem is who do I want to get everything and go through everything here in the house when I'm gone?  Perhaps I should not care who goes through my stuff as I'll be dead so why do I care?  I have friends, but most are older than me and I guess I'm not super close to them.  We meet a few times a year for lunch.   I guess I'll wait awhile as I can't keep going to the lawyer multiple times to keep changing my will.  I try to watch what I spend as I want to have money available for the future if I need it for my care, but then part of me wants to spend it as I don't have anyone I want to leave any of my money to when I pass.

SPEND IT!! If I had no one to leave it to, I would have a blast spending it and go out in a blaze of glory!!!😁

@Sapphiregal I couldn't do that.  Not in my nature.  Not in my way of thinking about money.

I said that because she says she has no one to leave her money or belongings to. Are you saying that if you had no one to leave everything to, you would still be reluctant to spend your hard earned money while you are still here to do it? If you cannot designate a person or entity you wish to leave things to, the State will be happy to take it.

@Sapphiregal I have absolutely no body to leave my estate to.  Nobody.  Family dead, friends moved or died, but I am sure someone will benefit from my estate such as my church.  But the house and all that is in it?  Someone from church or state will have to disperse of it.  I have no one to handle that.  But I still am careful with my money, no reason to blow it just because.

I'm content with possessions, more than I need and getting rid of a lot--donating.  House is way more than we need, but we love it, and do I worry about after I'm gone?  No.  But that doesn't make me want to blow money on me/us.

Actually, I am a saver, myself. I have a very nice nest egg set aside and could take expensive trips, buy another home as a vacation home in another state, etc., but, I don't because I do have a child I want to leave it all to. By the time he is my age, who knows what it may cost to live, and, if I can help ease that burden for him ,I will. Of course, the value of the dollar is shrinking everyday.

However, if I had no children to leave it to, I would definitely spend most of it, settting aside some to donate to my favorite rescues and animal shelters.Smiley Very Happy
