I remember gas wars and $.15-$.25 a gallon. Gas was $.38 when I bought my first car.

During gas wars, it went down to $0.25, good times!

@Foxxee

Some evenings we would put in a dollar's worth of gas and it lasted for several days.

And we just drove around checking out different places and seeing who was where.

When I first started driving regular gas was $.07 for regular and $.09 a gallon for ethyl. Smaller gas tanks for a $1.50 you could "fill 'er up".

Was I really 16 once upon a time?  🤔

I really don't remember the prices when I first started driving, but I know that it was a usual practice to just pull up to the pumps and ask the gas attendant (yes, that was back in the good old days when they had gas attendants to pump your gas, check your oil, check your tire pressure, and wash your windows) to put $2.00 in my tank and I was good to go for days and days!!!

I remember when I was young and would ask my folks for a ride somewhere, and they would tell me to walk because "gas is .39 cents a gallon!" So several years ago when they were both still here and we were talking about gas prices and I asked "Don't you feel bad now for not giving me rides when it was .39 cents a gallon?" They got a chuckle out of that
