Re: Recipe Box and Address Books

When we had my daughters bridal shower, we included a recipe card in the invitation for everyone.

I couldn't find a recipe box and put a small basket on the gift table for guests to drop them.

We have one of those metal index things where you slide a marker on the side to the correct page.  Of course that broke years ago.  Why don't I get a new one?  It is a history of our life, old friends, mostly passed, doctors from other towns, companies we no longer deal with.  I'll have to one of these years, I'm just plain running out of lines to write new numbers on.

At Amazon, look up both with the Lane company.  I have some cute recipe boxes and cards.  I make my own phone book, but B & N have some great choices too.

Re: Recipe Box and Address Books

You could also look online at the Vermont Country Store website. I have two recipe boxes with old, handwritten recipes and a recipe book from my grandmother’s bridal shower in 1936. Beautiful script written with fountain pens....would never part with it. Address book I have moved into a small spiral notebook because I didn’t like having to change or remove things. I can keep it all in my phone but I prefer to have it sitting by me when I am sending Christmas cards, etc. some things just are better when they are hard-copy.

Re: Recipe Box and Address Books

Recipe boxes haven't gone anywhere.  Most of us, even young women like my girls, have recipe cards that were handed down from mothers, grandmothers, great grandmothers.  Go to the Bed Bath & Beyond website and you'll loads of them.  Some are plain so you can multipurpose them for address cards.  I like the clear acrylic ones and I am sort of thinking that when the girls ask me what I want for my birthday or Mother's Day, one of those might be nice to re-organize my recipe cards.

Re: Recipe Box and Address Books

There have been many great suggestions for recipe cards or notes.  I'd try an antique store or second hand store if you want something with a bit of a nostalgic appearance.

I, also, keep an address book because it will always be there, unless it were destroyed or lost in a move.   We cannot say the same for anything stored electronically.

eBay has lots of choices for recipe boxes and address books. I like eBay because I can usually find someone that has something nice with free shipping.
