@On It. I heard Ruidoso had big flooding again today.  Are you okay

I saw a video of the race track and it looked like a swamp.  Hope everyone and the horses got out before the water came.

The rains are supposed to continue daily through next week.  We've just gotten a couple of minor thunderstorms in Albuquerque and could use a good rain.

We are safe. The flooding is ongoing. The areas impacted are being washed away by raging walls of water. I have not seen news reports or videos, but the mayor and his staff are on the radio most mornings giving us updates.

Today's weather indicates an afternoon round of storms and another tonight. The mayor said a few moments ago that Lincoln County has had approximately 1900 structures affected by the fire and/or the flood. About 500 of those are in the village of Ruidoso.

The fire is out, but the flooding from the burn scars keeps coming with no end in sight.The flooding is in essentially the same areas every time. The water sheds off the burn scars and roars through the canyons, creeks, and river. Each time it floods the path widens a bit due to the heavy deposits of ash, soil, and debris. 

Two low lying commercial areas along the river have been severely damaged by the South Fork burn scar. A different commercial area along Hwy 70 is being trounced by the Salt Fire burn scar.

@Kachina624 The remainder of Ruidoso Downs Race Track 2024 Meet is being moved to Albuquerque. The facilities are too damaged to continue in Ruidoso Downs..

@Kachina624 They are moving the horse sales up there as well. If you enjoy quarter horses, this is the best of the best. I think it is called The Select Sale or something like that and is usually during the All American trials. Who knows this year?

@On It.  I wondered what they'd do about the track that was obviously badly damaged.

Somewhere, down river from Ruidoso, must be a literal

 mountain of mud that used to be the city.  Somebody needs to go get it and bring it home.

@On It.  Not a huge fan of quarter horses unless I have a cow to move.  For casual riding they have a really rough gait.  In racing, they go such a short distance, the race is over before you get comfortable.
