We too will be buying new seating for the living room. In another 2 weeks we're having new luxury vinyl laid in the entire main floor. Cannot wait to get this done from wall to wall that I hate now. The new stuff will look great, back to looking like hardwood.

I want a new love seat for me, a new recliner for hubby, and a new easy/side chair. I'll need an ottoman for me to work as a table too. Can't wait to get new furniture for the living space.

And with new flooring we'll be looking for two or three new area rugs as well, and a couple of smaller throws for the bathroom main floor (this too will get the same). Hubby will need a couple of changeable throws at the vanity.

I CANNOT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to buy new livingroom furniture and bed this year and found great sales at local and even chain furniture stores in the metro area.

There are Labor Day sales going on now. There will be a massive amount of sales between now and the holidays too.

I also tried ordering a smaller piece of furniture from Wayfair and it was a 2 month disaster! I won't order big things from them anymore.

Most of my wood furniture are antiques, centuries old, that I inherited.

My love seat was bought when I got married, it's been reupholstered several times.

I bought a new sofa a few years ago and wish I had just had the one I replaced  reupholstered.

@CalminHeart  I do have a bad feeling about shopping at Wayfair.  They seem to have high quality items, but with a big piece of furniture, what to do if something is wrong?  I called and they told me I would be on my own to send anything back.  No thanks!  I would only buy there small things I could carry to a shipper, and be mindful of the cost of return shipping, which can be substantial.

With Amazon, I bought a bed frame, and a large TV, and some tables and storage furniture and if something is wrong, they pick it up.  The bed frame was supposed to be adjustable and it didn't work.  It was cheap and I found the manufacturer offered no customer service, so Amazon picked up at their expense, but it was a giant hassle.  The other items, one broken, others that just didn't work out, they picked them up pretty easily and fast, most at their expense.  I think i returned a bunch of things too large for me to carry (tables and smaller chairs), and only had to pay like $8 for something that didn't fit the desired space when I put things in place.  So they are good about returns.  I do have Prime.  The UPS guy was good about picking up from my apartment all the large boxes of furniture that required aseembly.

ETA --  With Amazon, I would stick to things shipped by Amazon.  If the vendor does the shipping, Amazon is fuzzy about the returns.  I have had bad experiences with non-furniture items, so wouldn't buy large items not shipped by Amazon unless I was prepared to bear the cost for an item that does not meet my expectations.  But Amazon does come through for defective SMALL items, but need to stick to their deadlines.  Would not try with a big $$$ item.  When Amazon ships, they take full responsibility for return of defective items.  When Amazon ships but is not the seller, sometimes there is a nominal return fee.

I am intrigued by some interesting furniture at great prices from Etsy, but I am thinking too risky.  Some of the pieces come from India.  (I have bought things from Amazon that have been shipped all the way from China, and have been fine, so I guess this is feasible.  India is low cost manufacturing, and possibly good quality, though not for upholstery.)  Maybe a small thing from a vendor with good reviews and not too far away.

Maybe someone has experiences with Etsy they would share.

I will buy things only if shipped from within the U.S. from Etsy, Amazon, or any other place. This doesn't automatically eliminate fraud but it can help.

My sister ordered from Etsy once. The item was coming from overseas. Her card was stolen and used all over SE Asia. She lost about $2,000 that couldn't be recovered. I was her conservator at the time and it was a mess to clean up. I'm just glad I checked her bank accounts on a regular basis.

I investigated fraud for 20 years. I'm pretty picky about websites. I empty my cache, history, and cookies at least weekly.  I have a VPN. I have a virus/scam scan that automatically runs every day.

Everything in my home has been thrifted or second hand except my mattresses. I hve been buying this way for 35 years and upgrading as I go. They dont make things like they used to. I have the finest and most well made furntire of solid wood that ever existed, including antiques. My house is beautiiful. I took the time to wait and be patient until the piece came up for my home.Yes it was alot of time and work and patience to do this but you could never replace older furniture quality with new. Only thing I have bee looking for now is a solid sofa in the style I want. Looking for over 2 years not to find just the right quality and shape but I will find it. When I do, I will have it reupholsterd to my liking.

@CalminHeart  Thanks for sharing your experience with Etsy.  I have made several purchases of small things (I think each less than $100) and always had a good experience, which is why I was tempted by the larger things.  I think it's a good website to shop for crafts.

They have antiques from United States sellers (which I think I would try if I could check the seller, many have other sales venues, and I think Etsy reviews are legit), but wasn't sure about foreign sellers, because I would think we have less recourse if things went bad.

Did your sister use a credit card?  I guess it was a bank account card?  I have always recovered my money using credit cards with regards to disputes, though I have never had false charges, just disputes.  One vendor charged me a very large amount in error, but they realized it and sought to correct it right away.  Am Ex said the credit is set aside at the time of the original transaction, but it is not processed until the vendor makes an additional submission, and that I couldn't even challenge the charge or have it removed until the deadline for the vendor to make the submission has passed, even when the vendor acknowledged right away it was a mistake.  Since the final vendor charge never came through, Am Ex let the charge disappear I guess would be the best word, case closed without problems.  Other disputes have been settled with the credit card company crediting my account.  They do ask that one first try to work it out with the vendor, but if one can't, the credit card company has always issued me a credit.

I just received a lamp from them today.

Supposedly, it was a *tax free day*, but I didn't realize it had to be in their B&M store

I ordered it online.

Luckily, I like it.....

There is still well made furniture out there. I go through a boutique and order pieces. Were adding on a family room and enlarging our dining room. I can look at the pieces I want online. No prices given. But worth every penny. They use real mahogany, re-plant/replace the trees used. And best of all, no toxic finishes. Will last and last and again, worth every penny.
