Mixed - I did accomplish something, but I'm in a lot of pain from sciatica, which started causing problems again about 4 days ago.

@beach-mom

I have the same issue from the heavy carrying when I styled at Dillards the year after I retired from teaching.

I am on Meloxicam, but I love these!  They can be frozen or heated and wrapped around any part of the body.  I have two, always frozen.

Amazon has several different shapes.

Pain Relief Flexible Ice Pack for Injuries by TheraPAQ | Hot & Cold Therapy Reusable Gel Pack/Heat Wrap - Great for Back, ...

@ECBG - Thank you for the suggestion. I'll look that up!

I started with this in April, after thinking I would have so much more time to get things done at home. I'd never heard much about it, but learned more friends than I would have believed had experienced it. DH was the one who originally "diagnosed" me - LOL! Animals can get this too.

At first my family doctor (who was actually closed at the time but went to the office to see a few people) gave me steroids. I'd never taken them before but the pain was gone. Of course as soon as I took my last pill the pain came back.

I went through PT, and the exercises seemed to make a difference. After I kept them up, but I actually had less pain on days I didn't do them! My PT recommended a rolled back support pillow when I sit. I was going about my days, working some, etc. Four days ago I noticed that pain again.

So I've been living on Excedrin. After the first of the year I might see about getting the shot.

It's interesting to me that I have no back pain. The pain is on only the right side, starts in my lower buttock, down the back of my thigh, and wraps around to go down the front of my leg.

Sorry to @Reconnaissant  and everyone else for getting WAY off topic, but I appreciate @ECBG 's help!  Smiley Happy

@beach-mom

I have it frequently as a part of spinal stenosis, osteoporosis, degenerative arthritis, bulging disks and multiple sclerosis.  I get steroid shots.  Pain really is worse after the pills because they don't give you enough.  The pills should be given to get you through the withdrawal phase of the shot.

@beach-mom

Please don't do the Excedrin thing.  Kidney damage doesn't go backwards.

Also. In the shower, the hot/warm water may feel good at the time, but heat builds inflammation which causes pain.

Your best bet is physical therapy and an antiflametory.

@ECBG - I will look into this and ask DH. Thank you for making me aware. I get migraines, and Excedrin and a dark room have always helped me. I did ask my PT about taking it and he didn't seem concerned. I don't take a lot- today I took one - but at least now I'm aware of a side effect I didn't know about.

Please eat at least a few saltines first before anything like that.

Re: One Word That Describes Your Day

Cooking. I like to cook on Sundays...for the week if possible. On the agenda today is lasagna (usual recipe for DH) and for me I sub the noodles with thinly sliced zucchini, a big pot of minestrone soup with added leftover chicken breast, salmon and flank steak marinated and put in freezer bags to be cooked during the week....and done.

I should be finished by 1, so I can spend the rest of day reading/painting or catching up on The Queen's Gambit.

@Nonametoday - Thank you for the advice about the pills. I do plan to go see a pain management specialist. My PT said not to go to an orthopedic specialist because that doctor would do xrays (which I already had) and send me back to PT.

@ECBG - I never take Excedrin on an empty stomach. I did ask DH. He said I'm not taking it enough to cause any problems. I don't take it every day and until last Monday I had taken it only once (for a migraine) in the past 3 or 4 months! Since Monday I've taken it more often, but still - except for one day - only once a day. But thanks again for making me aware of something I never knew - all of these years!  Smiley Wink
