OH JEEEEEZ! NEW COMPUTER TO LEARN

Please have patience. I purchased an Apple Mac Pro yesterday and am learning it....quite slowly. It's completely different than the Microsoft computer I used for years. The key pad is different, where are all my icons, print, messages and emails? I'm pretty sure I can text from here since the fellow at the Apple Store linked it to my IPhone. My pics are here, but were not on the Mac.

I also purchased a "for dummies" book since the Apple guy only spent an hour with me setting it up, spoke quickly and hit keys and icons like a mad man... I'm not sure about  others, but I learn better by doing instead of

reading, so please bare with me.

Any hints or tricks are appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks.

Re: OH JEEEEEZ! NEW COMPUTER TO LEARN

I remember going through that learning curve. I had used Windows devices for 20+ years.  A lot of things are the opposite of a Windows computer.

It takes a little time to adjust but it's worth it. It becomes intuitive after a while. Be patient.

Look for answers online but don't go into black holes reading what shows up. Always use "macbook pro"  in your search questions or you'll end up with all kinds of useless info. Reference the book you bought.

I can't imagine ever going back to Windows.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Re: OH JEEEEEZ! NEW COMPUTER TO LEARN

I've had an iMac for many years, jsut bought a new one a year ago. Previous one lasted 13 years. At this point I wouldn't know what to do with a Windows system....I agree with the advice you've already been given. When you google for information, put in Mac Pro. You can find a lot of information on the Apple website discussion boards.

Yes, you can send and receive texts. Can't recall how I did it, but you'll need to enable sharing on your iPhone and the Mac. iCloud too, but I'm sure the tech at the Apple store did that for you. Photos should migrate over as well.

When I bought my new iMac last year, I got an email with a website and phone number to call with any questions, as well as online classes. It might benefit you to take a tutorial or two.

Good luck with it - it's a learning curve, but once you get used to it you'll be fine.

Re: OH JEEEEEZ! NEW COMPUTER TO LEARN

Congratulations joining the Apple family.  I know it can be a bit disconcerting at the beginning, but you will get the hang of it and, I'll bet, it won't  take long.

I switched when my computer took a nosedive when I was in graduate school and working on my thesis.  At that time, Apple had workshops in their stores, but like you, I found learning by doing is my friend.  Also, You Tube is a great reference source....almost any process can be found.  The more you noodle around I think you will find Apple to be intuitive and enjoyable.

It is always a challenge to learn a new "language", but I think you will be happy with your decision.  Take your time and enjoy the process, the reward will be worth the effort.  đź‘ŤđźŹĽ

@Shanus, you can also call 1-800-275-2273 (800-MYAPPLE) and they shoud be able to help. If you go into your iPhone's settings>Phone>calls on other devices>select what other Apple devices that you want where you can answer a phone call.

Same with messages. Go to iPhone settings>Messages>Text Message Forwarding>choose what Apple device that you want forwarded.

Both of your devices should be under the same Apple account. It also might take some time for everything to transfer over from your iCloud account.

Good luck!

I've had my MacBook Pro for several years.  I'm on my second one.  And I have an iPhone.  Love my Apple products!   However, one thing I did....when I replaced my desktop, i use Windows.  I'm not as adept on that, but I wanted to maintain at lease a cursory knowledge of both operating systems.  Just "my thing" I guess.  Good luck @Shanus  on your new computer!!!!!!!!
