@MacDUFFsince you asked me to post these from time to time
I'm doing another giant house........18k sq. feet........who needs 18k sq. ft?????????
Anyway, I'm doing the whole house on this one, all cabinetry throughout the house........this home also has 3 master bedrooms, home theater room, which we will be putting a button tufted theater doors up as the entry door to the room......I also have to find someone to construct a "broken mirror french door for her closet entry.......it was a joke that went where I hadn't planned on, so don't ask LOL...........color theme was inspired by Versace, so white, black and gold, not my call but the client's.
I don't have the walls for the entire room on this one, because we're at the initial design phase, but thought I'd share it..........reason for the double chair grooming table is because she has a daughter who apparently goes to a lot of proms and the mom has always wanted to be able to be a part of her getting ready.......crystal knobs and pulls, also crystal chandeliers for lighting......mirrors will have "bar" lighting, think make up lights at the grooming table......this is the daughter's bath...................................raven

Well, if you want to look at it that way. My daughter lives in the same development as the family that is building the largest house in America. That's what they always say when they describe this house that's being built and will probably never be done.
I have no idea how big that thing is. The house they live in near my daughter is very, very large but this other one is supposed to be massive.
Who in the name of heaven needs houses this big? I guess as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter. If someone wants it and they can afford it go for it, I say.

Wow! All the cabinetry is a huge responsibility for all that sq footage. The black, gold, white color scheme...is that for the cabs (having a hard time picturing it) or overall?
Thanks for clueing me in about the walls...I wondered about that LOL.
Are you going to be designing the button tufted doors?
I hope we'll get to see how it progresses! A design from start to finish! Thanks for remembering, raven.

@MacDUFF the color scheme.......not necessarily........most of the cabinetry will be a transitional style white cabinet, with a few exceptions..........the bar in the house, I'm doing in a high gloss black laminate, euro style cabinetry, because they want the bar contemporary, I'm designing it with a gold and black quartz bar top, the bar top I'm having lit from underneath and that lighting will be the main lighting in that room.......with the black cabinets, and that bar top, when you walk in what you'll see is this glowing hunk of quartz, the cabinets will disapear.......very clean and very sleek. we'll bring the gold in with hardware and plumbing fixtures throughout the house
I've already designed the theater doors.....that was easy.......I have a car upholstery place doing it LOL.......solid core door, a drill, some black vinyl, batting, brass brads, upholstery string and matching vinyl covered buttons and you have a door LOL...right now I'm trying to find someone to custom build the broken mirror french doors for the closet off the main master en suite........I think to create the broken mirror mosaic for the doors, my best bet would be someone who works with stained glass, that's the only way I can see having it be able to withstand opening and shutting all the time....................................raven

The bar sounds gorgeous...hope you will post a pic! And one of the broken glass french door, too, LOL. From what I remember of it back in the day...and the tech may be different/better now...leaded glass was not very stable...?

leaded glass is stable, although you may have to reglaze it, IF the door is slammed a lot............the copper foil techinque you see in Tiffany style glass isn't real stable faux stained glass............basically you have copper, a real soft metal, foil all around the glass piece and then you sodder the whole thing........but sodder isn't that ridgid either in that application.......BIGGEST problem with the stain glass is the lead.........it's exposed, it's soft, and it's posioness.........so you have to make sure there are no little kids who like to pick at things in the house.........I used to do a lot of stained glass, some of the pieces I still have are 30 years old..........................raven

WOW - and I thought I had a big new project to go in mid/end of May at my place. We've decided to have all of the wood floors re-done, you know sanding, staining, 3 coats of poly. This is the very last project we need to tackle in this old house.
Moving out everything will be night marish - to have movers come in and empty for us, I can't even imagine although the reality is, I don't think it'll be quite as bad as I'm imagining. We have a third floor attic that's a huge room in itself so I'm taking the small stuff up there, boxing up the trinkets from each room and stashing the boxes up there too. Movers will have just the big stuff to move. DH and I talked all sorts of logistics in getting this done - what to do with the furniture. There are some companies who can do storage, we could rent a POD and put it on our long driveway, we've also talked about moving out our cars and stashing the furniture in the garage. I think this is where we've landed, big 2car so I'm sure this will work.
Since we have a dog we must think about too, and we don't need to vacate while the work is going on (they'll do 2nd floor first, work the staircase, then do 3 rooms main floor) I think we're setting up a bed in the dining room, sleep here and move it ot when the guys are ready to do 1st floor. After 2nd floor is done, move back in there first, and turn over the 1st floor to the guys.
In any event, we're excited to finally get our floors looking beautiful (again). And I'm surprised the job isn't costing us an arm, a leg and our first born!!!!

I think a retro fit/remodel is always harder then a new build..........but in the end, it's always well worth it......................................raven

Yes, the lead around the glass is what I meant (altho you wouldn't know that from the way I worded it LOL)...it's fragile and flexible on the smallish hanging stained glass trinket a friend made me about 40 years ago. If not a stained glass door (which doesn't seem realistic because of the use, as you mentioned), I guess I was envisioning the broken glass being artistically placed and glued on some sort of backing...on both sides...with lead outlining ea piece of glass...am I babbling?
