I can relate to you. I always opt for the base model, and even base models have more bells & whistles than I need. Since I retired, I only put 5000 miles a year on my SUV. Another 5000 go on my husband's SUV. His is larger so we usually take it on vacations and mine gets us shopping and to appointments.

I love the lane warnings and front and rear warnings, camera, etc . Mine even vibrates if I cross a solid line and if I do it too much without my turn signal on it tells me to get coffee with a photo of it!
The assisted parking I really have t used, the salesman was going to show me and couldn't figure it out! I can parallel park fine.
The warnings are especially safer and good in shopping centers where people walk behind you and you can't look everywhere at once. You will like it!

@Shanus I drove a Forester from 1999 to 2021... I had 2 of them and LOVED them both. Old technology and I had a KEY! My new SUV has so much going on and I love it but it was scary at first. I felt like I was in the cockpit of a plane compared to my 2007 Forester! I went online where i found a TON of videos on YOUTUBE that helped me so much. When I went back to the dealer to have them show me a few things, they were very pleasantly surprised that I knew as much as I did. See if you can find something on YOUTUBE.
Didn't have time to read all the replies so forgive me if someone else suggested the same. I hope you enjoy your new Forester.

I have a 2017 Subaru Forester Touring that I took delivery of in Dec. 2016 after special ordering it in Sept 2016. My local Subaru dealer (Tucson Subaru) has New Owner Clinic on a certain evening about once a month that allows new owners to ask questions & learn about how your new car works & also includes a tour of the service/repair area (I swear you could eat off the floor back there! So clean!)
If you use a commercial car wash & have EyeSight, you need to turn it off before the car goes into the carwash. This is my 1st car with the push button starter & the 1st time I took it to get washed, I remembered to turn off EyeSight temporarily, but just got out of the car so the car wash guy get could in & vacuum & drive it into the carwash. Somewhere in the process, someone shut off the engine & the keyfob was in my purse & they couldn't get it to start since the fob was out of range, so they ended up having to push it out of the end of carwash rather than driving it out to the place where they wipe the outside & clean the windows inside & out. So now, if I take it to a carwash that I can't drive the car in myself, I have to remember to leave my keyring in the cup holder in addition to shutting off the EyeSight.

@Shanus , what year vehicle were you driving before? My car is a 2011 and my phone is synced to my car via bluetooth. LOL I can tell it to call someone and when someone calls me, I just speak, hands free. Maybe you never did the syncing on your old car? My DH never did.
Sometimes some of the new "improved" technology is anything but. I personally find it extremely unsafe for text messages to come across a screen inside a vehicle. I also find it unsafe for someone to have to mess around with said screen so they can utilize speech to text and respond or pull up a name to call.
Someone I follow on YouTube fairly recently got a Tesla and did a video about it. While the car is okay looking, some of the stuff it can do is downright stupid. She can set it so when someone sits in the passenger seat, it makes a farting noise. What sense is that?

My car has all the bells and whistles. It's like yours but it's an Acura.
I have a button to start it and it does everything. I don't need a key to get in it. I just touch the handle.
I like it. I bought it new. Even now there's only 27,000 miles.
I just don't drive much anymore. Maybe in 2 years I might give it to my granddaughter. I'm thinking of buying another new one.
It's kinda stupid though. I just pay cash for them. I used to lease them but my daughter said it didn't make much sense.
Do any of you remember in the "old days" when a neighbor got a new car, everyone came out to see it. And we were app happy for them.
No one thought they were bragging or envious, just happy for them.
But that's when the neighbors all knew each other.
@Shanus Thanks for sharing about your new car.
Sometimes people say "Well it's not new"
And I always say, "Yes it is! It's new to you!" 😘

@Annabellethecat66 Funny, I do remember making a big deal when a neighbor got a new car...I think that was before everyone had a garage, at least in the neighborhood where I grew up. In fact, if Dad came home with a new car, we piled in and went for Tastee Freeze.

@Shanus wrote:@SeaMaiden Yes, the rear window seems smaller and the side windows already have Molly's lip and tongue prints...what I call DOG ART.
We love the babies, don't we?
I got a kiss at 3:30 am!!!!
