Have never eaten them in my life. Don't think I could.

I love mussels.  Go to our favorite restaurant and a large portion, cooked, served with a side is under $25.  Never attemtped to make them at home.  $55/lb sounds ridiculous.  But then most of the food prices here seem ridiculous to me--LOL!!

Some foods it are not worth to make at home.  The best thing is to go out and enjoy something difficult to make.

When I was a kid our next door neighbor would pull them off the rocks at a local beach.  It looked like a lot of work but he didn't mind.  

They would steam them and dip in butter.  I tried one once and was not impressed.

I used to make them with tomato sauce, but since my alleggies I not longer do

They are tasty steamed in some butter, chopped onion, garlic, and white wine.

I've eaten the smoked mussels in a can. Not bad but I haven't eaten any in a really long time. Just not appealing to me anymore.
