My husband will turn 65 in December. This afternoon a young man about 25 rings our doorbell. Thanks to the Ring doorbell I was able to talk to him without answering the door. Anyway he said he was from Bankers Life/Colonial Penn insurance and wanted to talk to my husband about Medicare. I told him we were not interested. He kept saying he was a professional representative and wanted to discuss his options. Now I ask you, why on earth would I open the door to someone who came unannounced, uninvited to my door let alone give this guy information and let him into my house? I can’t believe a company would send someone over unannounced and unwanted in this day and age. I’ve heard this happens and these people are persistent. My husband already knows what he is going to choose and our financial advisor has classes on these things so we have someone we can ask questions of.

I would have called the police.  How did that young man "pick your house knowing your husband will be 65 in the near feature?"

The police should be aware of this "young man" (roaming the neighborhood?) making unannounced house calls claiming to be from an insurance co.

Never heard of that and thank goodness you didn't open your door and seriously I wouldn't of given him 10 seconds of my time.

Best answers, oh no, you must have the wrong address or sorry I can't help you, no one lives here that you might be interested in.

One might ask "why do we still have telemarketers."

Re: Medicare Salesman

[ Edited ]

@Mz iMac  There isn't a lot of privacy anymore.  There are lists that can be purchased that provide names, addresses, phone numbers etc. of people who will be turning 65 in the next 6 months (or any other time-frame the buyer purchases).

He was most likely just trying to sell a medicare supplement.  Ringing doorbells without an appointment isn't an approach that I would use or respond to, but people do it to build their business.

We just thought it was weird that someone would come to our house uninvited, unannounced and unwanted in this day and age. Our philosophy is: If we didn’t ask you to come over don’t even bother because we won’t talk to you. We only talk to people we make initial contact with,  not the other way around.

@Meowingkitty

Coloonial Penn is actually life insurance for seniors - nothing to do with Medicare. They seem a bit scammy to me.

NEVER open ur door to anyone. If u need a product or service, call a company, after getting a referral from friends!!!! Professionals (except realtors) don't door-knock. They could also be casing ur house. We live in a different world today than 30-40 yrs ago.

It's very easy to buy lists of names (for whatever purpose) - that's probably why they knew u and ur husband were seniors.

@kivah  They do offer supplemental plans for Medicare-which is what this person was trying to sell the OP.  Colonial Penn is the parent company; Colonial Penn Life and Bankers are affiliates.

Yes, they hawk life insurance but although they are not Medicare they do sell supplemental health plans for Medicare recipients.

@Mz iMac  I would have called, too, although nobody has privacy today-lists can be purchased anywhere.
