"James Beard Award-winning chef names Walmart the best place to buy USDA Prime beef in America.
Chef Chris Shepherd says the retailer's partnership with McLaren Farms gives consumers access to 'some of the best Black Angus beef in the world at a more affordable price.'
Pricing beats even Costco and Sam's Club, according to Shepherd."
i would not buy meat from Walmart either. We have local farms and butcher shops that I prefer. Don't even buy groceries from Walmart. I don't associate them as a grocery/food store. Costco is a good choice also for quality and price. But for the majority of the meats we purchase it is local.

Had a friend whose brother was an inspector at a plant that packaged frozen veggies. She jokingly complainted to him when she got stems in the package of veggies purchased from Walmart.........it was a major store brand veggie. He told her Walmart got the same looking veggie package as the other grocery stores, but it was a lower grade of veggies in the bag.
So if one buys a bag of Bird's Eye frozen veggies at Walmart it is different from the Bird's Eye veggies at other grocery stores, despite being in the same bag?
I am skeptical of this.......🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
@4kitties Yes it is possible. I have gotten Le Sueur peas with peas on more varying size in the ones from Walmart, it is the SAME peas, but sizes are different among those in the can. I remember this being talked about way back when my dad raised spinach and took loads of it to the canning plant.
Wheat--you get more per bushel depending on how much foreign matter or moisture is in the load. Same with soybeans. I'm sure with produce. So the higher quality tomatoes may go in Hunts cans, ones a little less ripe or something or those of odd sizes may go in house brand cans.
Same with appliances and lots of things. Minor differences that probably won't matter to most.

I used to be vegan until my health took a dive and got back to eating meat again.
I find the best tenderloin steak at Wal-Mart. Surprises me too. I will make a special trip there just to buy the steak. Always tender, cut well and priced better than the grocery store.

In this economy, many people have to do what they have to do.

we buy meat from a local grocery store . There is a butcher on hand plus we know all the workers behind the meat case so if I need a special cut like flank steak which they don't put out normally or say chicken that is very thin for cutlets they accommodate . I prefer supporting local grocery stores when I can.
we do shop Walmart for certain items as well like paper items , cleaning supplies etc.
