You Are What You Eat:  A Twin Experiment.

it may change what you eat and where u get it from.

i found it informative and really the information has been around for years.

I've read when buying pre-weighed beef or chicken from Walmart to take the package to a scale in the store and re-weigh it.  It's always wrong and can be much higher in price than what you're paying for - in Walmart's favor!

It's easy to check yourself and if it's dollars more than it should be, take to customer service and get it fixed.

I rarely buy meat from Walmart so I haven't checked it out myself. Saw the news about this on tv and on the internet.

Re: Meat from Walmart

[ Edited ]

Not everything is the same in Walmart as in other stores.

Had a friend whose brother was an inspector at a plant that packaged frozen veggies.  She jokingly complainted to him when she got stems in the package of veggies purchased from Walmart.........it was a major store brand veggie.  He told her Walmart got the same looking veggie package as the other grocery stores, but it was a lower grade of veggies in the bag.

Walmart is the cheapest place around  here to shop but I only buy the shelved grocery items. Cereal, yogurt, egg, butter and some fruit/vegg.  Most of the produce is pitiful.

One time, not long ago,  purchased a ham wrapped in that foil wrap that leaked in the fridge, one time a long time ago got hamburg that when I fried it up had some wierd fibrous stuff oozing out.  DH  gets his steaks at other stores like Shaws and Stop&Shop.

Aldi can be hit or miss. The best selection is Wednesdays when they get their meat deliveries. The stew meat is good and the chuck roast if there isnt a big section of fat running through the center of the cut.

@cindyNC Same products come off of the same lines.  But sometimes a lower grade of produce brought or produced prepped for canning at a lower quality goes for store brands.  That's why you will notice more irregularities or split beans, stems in the canned goods.

It isn't less healthy, just less perfect.

We have sometimes bought Costco's frozen grass fed burger patties and they make a decent burger.  We really have had good luck with Target's all white ground turkey.  It hasn't been smelly like turkey or strong tasting.

On the web site Target does list country of origin for most of its beef.

@Roscoe the Rascal  I am with you. I don't shop Walmart and some other big corps.   I try to buy small store, and local. I like to keep the smaller stores in business. Just personal choice I guess

@Sunshine Kate  I had read this. A while  back. They are facing charges and consumer lawsuits.  I did find this

Walmart has faced serious allegations regarding the mislabeling of meat weights. Customers have reported that some meat packages weigh significantly less than what is stated on the labels.

Key Findings

  • Weight Discrepancies: Videos shared on social media show instances where meat packages labeled as weighing over four pounds were found to weigh less than half that amount. For example, a package advertised as 4.66 pounds was actually only 2.37 pounds

it usually is 3-4 ounces. Walmart did respond to suit by claiming they don't weigh their meats.  The meats come prepackaged , weighed, and they put price on them. They do not reweigh them.

So if one buys a bag of Bird's Eye frozen veggies at Walmart it is different from the Bird's Eye veggies at other grocery stores, despite being in the same bag?

I am skeptical of this.......🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
