No way I would eat meat from Walmart!
"James Beard Award-winning chef names Walmart the best place to buy USDA Prime beef in America.
Chef Chris Shepherd says the retailer's partnership with McLaren Farms gives consumers access to 'some of the best Black Angus beef in the world at a more affordable price.'
Pricing beats even Costco and Sam's Club, according to Shepherd."

@snipsnapsnur. I don't eat a lot of meat, mostly chicken, but have bought very lean hamburger meat and pork from Walmart. It's always been very good. It's just another grocery store subject to the same rules, regulations and inspections as other stores.

I just bought diced chicken, chicken breasts, stew meat, and ground turkey for about $30. I was pretty happy with that.

I try to buy our fresh food from local suppliers - I like to support our local folks when possible.

Why? It's not like Walmart can make up their own standards. Furthermore, they wouldn't want a reputation of people having adverse reactions from their food.
When people think this way, it makes me wonder if when going to a potluck or someone else's house for a meal, do they ask where they purchased the ingredients or just not eat.

@snipsnapsnur Why not? No different from any other grocery store.

@snipsnapsnur Did you have a bad experience with Walmart meat? I've often purchased meat and produce from our local Walmart with no issues.

I saw that article also. Surprised! However, Winn-Dixie has realigned and is trying to reestablish themselves as the Beef People! Nothing like competition!
They may sell some of the best but I do not believe the majority of the meat is that quality!
Winn-Dixie has ribeyes for $6.99 lb this weekend!

I use Walmart pick up service al least once a week for about 2 years now. I have gotten beef, chicken, fish, dairy, eggs and never had an issue. I also shop at Aldis alot and again have not gotten any bad meat or fish, etc. These cheaper stores are under the same regulations as any other store as far as USDA or state health departments.

I prefer to buy from a local chain, especially fish. I had a piece of bone in a Wal-Mart 5# hamburger tube once years ago. Kind of wary since about their hamburger ,but could happen in other places. I have liked Purdue whole chicken from Wal-Mart.
I like Greater Omaha 86% lean hamburger from my local supermarket. They also have a mark down cooler with close to expiration dates to use or freeze. Better meat sale prices. Steak is high anyway but on sale and I can pick out meat from the counter. Cheaper than Wal-Mart. Lots of pork tenderloin and rib specials.
