I'm having difficulties breathing through a mask. Glasses fog up too. If they become mandatory, I'll need to stay home. My doctor will video conference with patients, but not telephone conference with them. I really feel like a dinosaur who can't keep up with the times.

Please let your doctor and or your doctor's staff help solve the problem. Tell them that you are not good at teleconference and ask them for help.  Trust me you will not be the first person who will tell them that.

A face shield is basically a sneeze guard protector; it is intended to protect you from droplet contamination, as well as spatters from any other bodily fluid.   Without a mask covering your mouth, is not effective virus protection, period.

I have a variety of face coverings and found the cloth surgical type with ties on each side to be the most comfortable for when I need to wear it for a long time.  I can adjust it for the most comfort vs the type that has elastic that goes around the ears and is not adjustable.

For a quick errand I've been using the disposable paper ones.

I also have the neck gator style which is too hot for summer but will be better for Fall/Winter.

I just keep

We live in Northern Virginia, and my son informed me yesterday of some very bad news.

His buddy's uncle through marriage, also a resident of Northern Virginia, died recently from COVID-19.  The uncle, I heard, was antsy to get out and about again and wore both a mask and a face shield over that.  He visited multiple places with gatherings of people.

This is upsetting to learn, of course, and I am sad for the uncle's family.  The secret to being the most safe may be staying away from any gathering.

I truly don't know, but I was terribly upset to hear this bad news.

ETA:  To hold off any negative comments, let me make it clear that I am a FIERCE advocate for WEARING A MASK.  My point, if clumsily made, is that we most likely also need to avoid groups of people in order to remain as safe as we can be.

@golding76   Your point was quite clear and made by CDC docs and Governor Cuomo of NY. Staying out of huge gatherings/groups where some are most likely unprotected (no masks) is the most safe.

Over the weekend, the news from the Miami mayor was going back and closing some businesses like bars/restaurants & beaches where people were gathering in large groups not masked. Servers were not wearing masks either. I'm not sure whether or not this will be mandated.

To get a handle on this virus and at least get back to leveling out the lower number of cases is to require, by law, that everyone needs to be masked!! As long as some people are not caring enough to protect themselves or others, we're looking at a continuation of COVID 19 into the new year and becoming the third wave when actual flu season hits.  I'm assuming this is the second wave.

Face shields are required by the medical staffs, but not the general population. I assume if we run out to purchase them, if readily available, we'll cause a shortage on the "front lines". I'd rather the docs have them than people in grocery lines.
