What a thoughtful and caring neighbor you have. I think it was so nice of her to check on you, especially if she knows you don't have family near by.
When I had a stroke and was hospitalized a neighbor called my sister to say he hadn't seen lights on at my house and he wanted to make sure I was okay.

@hoosieroriginal You should do what you feel like doing..if the grass gets a little long no harm. I used to do all the yard work and mowing. But now we have a service do the front and side yards and we take care of the backyard. We live in a very manicured suburb, but we can go at the back at our own pace since it's all fenced with 6'ft. wood.

Creatures of habit I guess (:
Ive tried that with myself, but my OCD won't let it happen and I'm right back to my routine again. Even though it supposedly chokes out weeds if you let your grass be a little longer, I loved how it looked freshly mowed, so there I was back out there cutting it short again. Enjoy your grass (:

I wouldn't like it either. My neighbors are busy traveling and enjoying life so I don't think they would notice anything about me. My girls check on me all the time though. (A dear friend of mine has a neighbor like Mrs. Kravitz.) (I think that was her name--funny to see the photos.)

Not a negative comment towards you and i hope you do not see it as such. I now see you said "changes in my life", and not "changing your life". What a difference I see in the meaning of both of the above with the " " marks around them.
Was going to say that I do not see when I mow my lawn as a "life changing"(I mowed are acreage earlier today) event, much less as changing my life.
Now me quitting smoking/alcohol/meat-fish-fowl, and gambling? Those I see as life changing, or "changing my life". But your saying "making changes in my life", is a lot different than what I was going to say. So no negative from me about when you mow.
Never cares or care what people other than those close to me think about me or what I do in my life. My neighbors didn't think enough about how our yard looked to help my wife during my many "off hockey season" long hospital stays. To 1 of them I have said "thanks for nothing".
Do I give a s*** what he thinks of me now? One 2 letter word is my answer. I live my life, first for me, and next for my loved ones. I have to come first to be able to accomplish #2.

I applaud you for doing the right thing. I feel that if a person has neighbors in close proximity, there is an obligation of keeping a manicured lawn. That can be accomplished by either personally maintaining it or hiring a lawn service.
We used to own a home on a very small city lot, but I can't tell you how many hours my husband would spend mowing 2 times a week, weed removal, edging sidewalks, watering flower gardens, etc. People walking down the street would often compliment him for having such a well-cared-for lawn, but it came with a pricetag of time and energy after working all day.
We have recently moved to a condo and relish in the luxury of not being responsible for the manicured grounds, a pool, hot tub, etc. Ah, this is the life! 😊

I quit smoking in 1967. All the things I listed I quit decades ago. None of the hockey players or long distance runners, around whom I spent a majority of my free time, were smokers. Most athletes do not smoke as lung capacity is very important in distance running road races.
I may have written it where it was hard to understand, but my list was things that I HAVE QUIT because they did not fit my athletic lifestyle.
