Re: Lately I Feel Afraid To Go To Bed

@rms1954  I am so sorry that you are going through this.  Last year, I was very ill with a severe case of food  poisoning, and I had a few nights where I was afraid to sleep because I was not sure that I would wake up.  Of course, not sleeping does not prevent the inevitable if it is our time to go.

Please make an appointment with your doctor to see if there is anything wrong.  It does sound like it might be an anxiety attack, because they do not always show up in shortness of breath and panicking.  Also, every morning, just post here so that we all know that you are with us.  Sometimes having a goal to start the day can ease any anxiety and make for a better day.

If you have anyone who can spend a few nights with you, that might help.  I know that you have had offers from some of the posters here, so I can add my name to the list, if you are near Delaware.

I hope tonight brings a better night for you.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!

Re: Lately I Feel Afraid To Go To Bed

@rms1954  Thank you for sharing something so personal and upsetting.

None of us are medical professionals, but being afarid to go to sleep can be dangerous to your body/mind. We all need some good sleep.

Many people are experiencing difficulties, one way or another, during this pandemic...if that's the reason.

I agree, you should check with your doc and talk it over. You'll feel so much better knowing you've gotten a medical opinion. Best of luck.

@rms1954

If I told you I had the opposite problem and that I sometimes dread being awake, you might think I'm making light of your situation.

Trust me, I'm not.  I welcome sleep.  It's an escape.  It's an opportunity to turn off my mind and body and allow both to rebuild themselves.

For some, sleep is no relief because of dreams and nightmares.  For me, no nightmare could be worse than 2020.

Some very good advice so far on the thread.  @BlueFinch  makes some astute observations.  I hesitate to advise you because I don't know if the problem is physical or psychological.  Or both.

I don't know how much you want us to know, but it sounds like the ladies here are concerned and want to ease your suffering.

Just know that you need to sleep.  You can't function without it and your mind and body need that time to heal.

I am so sorry.  I know I get scared sometimes and I don't know if you are religious but I always pray. I would print a prayer but don't know if it's allowed.  There is no burden in life that Jesus cannot help us overcome

Re: Lately I Feel Afraid To Go To Bed

I feel for you. I don't understand why you would post that very disturbing post then not respond to the many people on here that really seem to care.  And please follow the advice from everyone here.  Seek professional help, depression is real and it's a killer.  Do not rely on a forum for relief, call your Dr or better yet call one of the 24 hour hotlines in your area.  God bless.

Re: Lately I Feel Afraid To Go To Bed

I believe there are many free gov. sponsored phone hotlines re: Covid in each state and county and possibly city/town.

Look in the gov websites and find the various hotlines.

The best of luck to you.  Don't forget that we are all in the same situation, all around the world.

Keep us posted.

Wishing you well, and a good night's sleep.

When I can't fall asleep, I leave my TV on with it's timer set for 90 minutes.

Re: Lately I Feel Afraid To Go To Bed

That really does sound like anxiety (panic) attack. I've heard that it makes you feel as if you are dying. My son had that after been involved in a car accident that left a bruise on his brain and he was put on medication and after a while he was able to control them with deep breathing.

Please seek professional help. There is help out there.
